Just Got Accepted!!!!

Nursing Students General Students

Published

I just responded to my acceptance letter and accepted my seat into an RN program here in Chicago. Any advice for a new nursing student starting their first semester of nursing school in Jan. 2014???

Invested in note cards! I don't think that I would have graduated if I didn't use note cards. Plus to make it easier to get a job after graduation find a PCA job. I had no nursing experience when I graduated and it took me 6 mos to land my first position. Good luck and enjoy the experience![/quote']

Thank you Keri. I will invest in note cards, and fortunate for me, I'm a PCT.

Congrats! Still waiting here in Ga.

Best of luck

Congrats! Think about buying the Saunders Comprehensive Review for NCLEX-RN book. I used this book to help prepare for exams during nursing school and found it very helpful! Also just know there will be days that you will be exhausted and you will feel like giving up. Its okay we all had those days...Give yourself a break! Do something nice for yourself and take it one day at a time! I promise it will be worth it! I wish you the best.[/quote']

Thank you soooo much. I will look into making that purchase.

congrats! I am also waiting to start school in Jan so I am not of much help. Next application time I will be able to answer questions for the newly accepted people![/quote']

Thank you and congrats to you as well. I look forward to a time when I'm able to positively advise new nursing students too.

Congrats to you. I'm also expecting to be accepted and starting Jan so I'm not much help. But wishing you the best of luck to you:) or to us should I say :D Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com[/quote']

Thank you and best of wishes to you. And congrats in advance

Never make enemies at school. Always be helpful to other students. Find time to sleep. Be happy with any passing grade on a test and do your homework unless it's worth no points and wastes hours that you need to sleep! Get extra tutoring if you need it. If your grades can afford it, miss a class now and then to catch up on sleep, food, and life. Don't miss clinicals though! Tell people you have no life during school and they must accept it. You will miss birthdays, holidays, and other important dates. Surround yourself with encouraging, positive, motivated people - not the sad, dismal, going-to-drop-out types. Believe you will make it through and work hard! Woot! That's some quick advice ... quality not guaranteed LOL Cheers -Trevy[/quote']

Thanks, I really appreciate it.

Study daily go out one night a week after studying all day. Watch youtube videos explaining the patho, they are really helpful, and many times more clear than lecture itself.[/quote']

Thanks, I'll definitely keep this in mind.

-Organization will be big in reducing your stress; i purchased one of those large desk calendars for my room and a small month calendar for on the go, that way i can see when papers are due and when exams are weeks in advance.

-Work out; lift weights, run. Stay active, you'll find yourself with a lot more energy if you keep yourself in shape and it's a great outlet for stress

-Find out where you study best and how you learn, are you audio? visual? depending on what type you are you may end up recording the lecture or videotaping it.

-When school starts, HIT THE GROUND RUNNING. try to stay ahead of the game if you can, and by this i mean having at least browsed the assigned chapters for the class that day before lecture starts. This will help give you a better understanding of what your teacher is talking about, will help paint the bigger picture, and tie everything together.

Lastly, breathe! Nursing school can be very overwhelming, just try to take it one day at a time and stay positive during the bad days you will have. You will find your group of friends in your cohort that you'll stick with, they will also serve as your support system.

Congrats on your seat in the nursing program and good luck!

Congrats on being accepted! I also got accepted in Chicago and start in Jan. I plan on purchasing a bunch of good pens pencils and notecards. I will also be making a daily schedule and a study plan to keep up the nursing school pace so i dont fall behind. Im also thinking of planning an easy menu for the month so i know whats for dinner and lunch everyday ;-)
