How about a thread that will allow us to introduce ourselves to those who are new and the new students can do the same.

I am Stephany, 42, mother of 3 children, a son 22, a daughter 15, and a son 13. I am an LPN of nearly 11 years, and I am in my first semester of a five-semester rn program.

Care to share?

Hello! I am a mom of 3...age 3, 9 and 10 and in my third year of an RN BSN nursing program. It can be difficult at times being away from the family to study for the next exam or write the next paper...so it's nice to hear there are other mom's out there persevering. Way to go!

Good luck everyone!

Yes, it is great to see so many of us "moms" going into nursing! Good luck to all of you, young, old, mom's, guys, too!

I got offered a position on a med-surg floor that I LOVED when I did clinical there. I really didn't think I wanted to start in med surg, but when I went to interview yesterday I remembered how much I enjoyed the staff there last summer. The manager was actually pleased I was interviewing early (I don't grad. until June) and said she'd love to have me and would hold a position for me for when I graduate in June '07. I'm so excited I actually feel like studying again, LOL!

Specializes in Med/Surg and ER.

Hey Jennifer-good luck with your critical care rotation-there's alot to be learned there too! I'm taking gen ed classes now-hope to start BSN program in Aug 07 I'm going to school full-time and working PRN at a local hospital-nights and week-ends...hope for some better hours one of these days! Yep, days will be wonderful! Hey I just read your post r/t the new job/interview was yesterday! How cool is that! Congrats!!!

hi! im jeannie, 27 yrs old, married for 8 yrs and a mother of 3 girls ages 7, 6, & 4. im in my 2nd year of lpn school. it is hard, i admire anyone who goes thru this in one year. right now i am kind of struggling with the studying/time with family balance. with three active kids, and a husband that works full time 3pm-11pm, it gets kind of hectic. so....hello to all of you fellow nursing students! im glad that we are all here and are going thru the same thing...esp those of you with kids as well!

Thanks K9's mom! I clarified with my to-be nurse manager today that we are not offered straight days as I had thought. We can work 3 12's, rotating 2 weeks of days then two weeks of nights; or, work 2 12's and 2 8's, rotating days/evenings or days/nights. Anyone have any experience to share about pro's/con's of these shifts? I think a 3 day week sounds pretty good, even if I do have to do some nights.

Thus far I have been alternating weeks of 3 12s and 3 12s plus an 8 as a Tech... all night. Where I work you are either day or night... the evening people occasionally will do a day or night if needed. In all reality, I would have to recommend trying it, but tell you to think long and hard about switching back and forth. I have just finished my first 3 weeks on nights... LOVE the night (7P-7A), but am not quite figuring out how to function in the real world on this shift yet. I sleep while the kids are in school and spend the afternoons with them... work overnight while they are with their father... but my problem seems to be now to figure out how to do the basic daily stuff (laundry, clean house, errands and such). Even when I have 3 days off in between night shifts I sleep the first "day"... then can't sleep that night... so sleep a bit the middle day and have some of the afternoon (not much)... then the third day I have to sleep b/c I'll be working that night. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it, but at this point I am thinking thank goodness for 24 hour Super Walmart LOL... groceries would be in short supply otherwise! :) If your body will allow the alternating two weeks... that might be a great alternative... use the two weeks of days to get your house clean and well stocked with food and sleep the other two weeks LOL! :)

Hi Everyone!

I've been here before but it's been awhile.

I'm Kelly from Michigan. I've just registered for my last semester in the RN program!:yeah: Took my LPN boards yesterday! (yes, I'm freaked about it!) I just wanted to take it as a practice kinda thing and now I'm very glad that I did!

I am married to a wonderful man and have two children. Chelsea is 13 and Kyle is 10. They are 100% behind me and my studies!
