I'm begging for help- Pinning problems!!

OK everyone - I'M ON MY KNEES - I NEED HELP.

It's up to me to come up with our pinning program. Our class is really messed-up & we are having 2 "pinnings" and graduation. The first pinning is on Thurs. (dental/medical assisting, surgical techs & us - LPN's) & that is when we will receive our candles and some of us will receive our pins (this is because one of our instructors will not be present on Thurs. & we want her to be there - so we are holding a private one, just for us on Sat.)

So - I thought

1. Open w/a prayer (we are in the bible belt)

2. Someone give a welcome speech

3. We would walk in -our instructor will light our candles - to the song "Go Light Your World"

4. File in - and be called to receive our pin

5. Our class president will make a speech

6. Show a slide-show, while a classmate sings a song about friends

7. Class gives out funny awards

8. Present gifts to instructors

9. Have instructors make a speech

10. Someone sing a song

11. Closing prayer

Can anyone else thing of anything?

Thanks - justjenn

That sounds good to me. I have just a few thoguhts/questions. Do you have someone in your class who can sing and is also willing to sing? The funny awards, does everyone get one or is there a chance it may feel like a popularity contest to some? Does the class vote on who gets these or are you just going to make them up? I always thought a slide show would be really neat. Do you or does anyone have some photographs of the students at different times of the program that you can turn into a slide show? Just an idea.

Your program sounds really fun. These are just a few things that came to my mind when I read your ideas.

Good luck!

Congratulations !! :balloons: My pinning is Friday and I am so excited. Yours sounds pretty much like mine. We have more music and a slide show. We went through the pictures and made sure that everyone is included. I hope everything goes great!!

Yes - I have 2 people that WANT to sing (go figure). Yes, everyone does get an funny award -really, it's a card with what your classmates voted you as - I am "Most Likely to be buried with her nurse's cap" and Most likely to watch Harry Potter instead of studying. And I just finished the slideshow - powerpoint.

I think it sounds wonderful....

wow!! your pinning ceremony sounds much nicer than ours. we are going to a local restaurant (we have reservations...i hope..lol) and we are having lunch and pinning at some point during lunch. we "voted" as a class as to which restaurant we are going to, but it wasn't really a vote. not complaining, but i thought our pinning would be a little more than a large group lunch. oh well, i guess as long as i get my pin and my gvn certificate, i'll be happy. i'm beginning to get graduatitis...scared now of boards!! good luck on boards!! your plans for pinning sound wonderful!! have fun!! :balloons:

It was BEAUTIFUL. The music, the presentation, the powerpoint slide show to AEROSMITH (sp?) Dream on - & timing was spot on, the speech, the program - along with making all the copies, picking out & ordering the presents and all the music. I directed and wrote this entire thing. It was GREAT - BUT..............................

Do you think I was formally thanked for this - Oh, No! :angryfire I only had 3 students come up to me after the ceremony and thank me, saying that it turned out wonderful. And my instructor said that it was the best one they ever did (mainly due to the fact we did this on our own and the school was not involved). Then she said "You'll have to come & do this ever year for us"

But, to me, it would have been nice if they acknowledged me formally, so my parents, husband & his family would have known - I wanted them to be proud & basically, I had to tell them - Everyone thought the class/instructors/school did it all. Not so. Not by a long shot. The class didn't help AT ALL. I didn't win any awards, but I do have talent -obviously. ANd I never "pat" myself on the back EVER - I am always very hard on myself -But oh well.

Maybe I am suppose to learn humility. It was lovely & I gave people a lot of great memories. Guess thats what counts.

Glad it's over.

that is absolutely horrible! i do not understand people! the only thing i can think of is that you did such an incredible job the teachers wanted everybody to think they did it. people were probably jealous that you could pull off something so wonderful they did not want to make themselves feel "worse" by giving you the credit. how incredibly selfish and rude. i can only imagine how hurt and angry you must have felt (and still feel) for the lack of thoughtfulness by your fellow students and teachers.

i sure would have thanked you! are you telling me nobody else even helped you with the ceremony? i think i would have said "screw this!" before completion.

at least you know how great you did.

Then, wait until you are nursing fulltime...

There aren't many cheerleaders in nursing

Perhaps people were too focused on enjoying the fruits of THEIR years of labor to appreciate what you did. I'm sorry you felt slighted, but, Its not so unbelievable you know, that ppl weren't focused on finding you to thank you.

I imagine they were focused on celebrating with their loved ones. I am sorry if you feel your classmates disappointed you, but i honestly don't think it was their job to make sure YOUR friends and family were proud.

I would have been happy to let ppl think it was a class effort, rather than make sure to point out i was the one who planned it.

All that said, i am sure it was wonderful and your classmates were lucky they had you to volunteer and want to do it all.

Honestly, I'm not ASKING for a "cheerleading" section - just a thank you. Hello- I worked just as hard as they did AND did alittle more to make that day something they will remember for the rest of their lives.

Just FYI - we had 2 (two) pinning events & 1 graduation. My classmates can NEVER agree on anything & some of them are only concerned with #1 - themselves. This was evident when we had classmates whose mother & brother die. And would you believe, no one in the class - after 4 days - took the time to send them a card, call, go to the funeral or send flowers? Well, you might. BUT if YOU did all that work & were in my shoes, I bet you would feel differently. Guess you have to be there

I have been brought - up to appreciate and acknowledge the labor of others & tell them "thank you" when they do something nice.

And that's my 4 cents. Justjenn

I never SAID you were seeking out cheerleaders. Re-read my post if you must.

It's sad that they failed to recognize your efforts, but as i stated before, They may have been all caught up in the joy that comes with working ones tush off -and making it through a challenging program.

I ALSO stated before, They're lucky there was a person such as yourself who VOLUNTEERED TO DO IT ALL. It was really nice of you to take it all on as you did.

You in your own post said you were the last to pat yourself on the back (as you patted your own back).

(see quote from your post below)

Justjenn>> "I didn't win any awards, but I do have talent -obviously." :stone

Why not be happy that YOU are pleased with your efforts, and be happy that SOME (albeit not all) , also recognized what a lovely program you arranged.

Be happy that you pointed out what you had done so as to make your friends and family proud of you.

(i'm sure they were already, finishing nursing school is no small feat!)

I think you did a wonderful thing for your class. Try not to be too hard on them though,

I feel sure, that if they knew how upset you were at the lack of "formal" recognition you got from them, they would feel just awful.

Take care, congrats on becoming an RN.

I am sure your patients will benefit greatly from the dedication you provide, despite lack of formal recognition.

You have a beautiful, selfless,nature,

Bev
