I met a mean nurse!

  1. I was at weight watchers last night when I overheard a person talking about how she is a nurse. I asked her what kind of nurse she was and how long she had been working. She said that she was a nursing supervisor and had been working for over 30 years. I told her that I was finishing up my first degree and trying to get into nursing school. Unfortunately, all she could do was snap at me the answers and then abruptly turn her back to me. She didn't say another word. All I could think was, I sure hope she doesn't have to work with patients much. I mean, it wouldn't be good for a sick person to get that kind of attitude. I guess I just don't understand why someone who has been a nurse for so long and was even talking about the nursing shortage would be so rude to someone who was eager to join the same profession.

Maybe she had a bad weigh in.

Regardless, you're going to find snippy people everywhere, unfortunately she was one of them.

Thats too bad Kats.... ((((Kats))) . Hopefully next time you see her she will be in a better mood.

I think I am an Optimist...lol... I like to think that people are really good inside but sometimes they have a bad day or are in pain (emotionally or otherwise) and just don't realize how they appear to others.

How's weight watchers going??? I was in the program for awhile, but just didn't have to focus to keep going. I've known a lot of people who have done so well with that.

I've been able to lose 18 of the 35 I needed to lose by using slim fast for breakfast, watching what types of food I eat at mealtimes and getting some excercise in. The last few weeks have been a bear with chemistry and I have not been getting the excercise I need so I am stuck at this plateau. Sorry to get off topic... lol I am naturally a chatty person! lol

Good luck with Weight Watchers and keep a smile in your heart.

    Hugs!

AmyLiz, she hadn't weighed in yet because we were in line to weigh in. I suppose she could have been grouchy because she knew she messed up this week and had gained, but she was nice to the other person that she was talking with. Asianckutie, I didn't want to say anything because I was in a good mood from losing weight over the week and I didn't want her to ruin it. I also figure that working in the hospital, there will be plenty of grouchy people, especially patients and their families. I certainly won't be able to say something mean back to them. I just thought it was mean that she would be so unsupportive of someone going into nursing. There are plenty of nice people who attend the meetings, so it doesn't worry me at all. MaryRose, I only started last week but have lost 7 pounds so far. Unfortunately, I have quite a ways to go. From pregnancy when my son was born to depression for a number of years to unsuccessful diets to quitting smoking to stress when my husband went to sea for six months for the first time, it has added up. I really think I will be successful this time though. Congratulations on your weight loss success!

Exactly. She may have a a totally unrelated to "nursing" bad day.

Every nurse you meet isn't going to be this wonderful human being.

she sounded rude...btw, the other day at clinical, I met a nurse who was on weight watchers, and she said she was down 67 pounds(she started Jan 03).

[I]I am sorry she was rude, I have a few instructors who get curt like that some times and I have often wonder what is that all about ya know.......... they teach you all this therapeutic language but when they talk to students in a curt fashion...........they are not so therapeutic and sometimes border on down right disrespect. You kinda observe it and make a mental note and say God keep me from that path. YOu have others to encourage you here though. Stay focused and do not let persons of this nature serve as a deterent. You find them on clinical rotations as well. The nurses who say why you want a be a nurse yakety yak kinda stuff (they annoy me) and seem miserable. Remember in nursing if your not happy you can always go into another area in the same field or least I have been told . Still a student you know....hehe

I do admire you though , you have a lot on your plate right not, your hubby over sea, a new baby, tring to lose weight, thats a lot of stuff plus things your probably have not mentioned here,,,,,,,,,,I bet meeting that woman with so much other stuff going on too was a real downer...................but thank God that you got to talk to others about it and let out the frustration...........Ill be praying for you ............that your hubby come home soon safe.........that the baby stay doing well healthy happy,,,,,,,,that you stay on track with all that you have in front of you,,,,,,,,,,that God send you help even if its just a happy email but I hope its in person too.............I admire you for setting goals for yourself and really working hard ..........God bless and keep up the good work...............losing 7lbs is wonderful I am sure you will reach your mark one day at a time.............see ya ((((((((hugs your way))))))))))))

Actually my husband is on shore duty now. My son is 15 years old. My step-daughter is 4. I guess I wasn't clear enough when I said I had gained weight from pregnancy. I just meant that it was the beginning of many things that compounded to make me overweight. Well, that, some depression and a whole lot of denial. I really appreciate your supportive and caring e-mail though. It did make me feel better after what has really not been a very good day due to complications arising from my son's tourette's syndrome and some very poor choices he made today at school. I am just trying to not lose it too much as I have IBS from anxiety (big surprise there, huh?) and stuff like this tends to make me feel very sick. I am getting better at dealing with it though. I was on Celexa for a while, but have been off of it for about a year now and am still working on keeping it under control without the meds. Thanks again for the support.
