Has anybody recieved any news regarding the 2014 application for the Nurse Corps scholarship? Any "Congratluations" e-mails yet? I applied in May 2014 and I haven't heard anything yet. I'm checking my application status ("Under Review") and reading these threads daily, anxious to get hear some good news. Does anyone know when we will find out if we've been chosen or not? Threads from the past few years point to this week as the week that everyone gets their e-mails. However, I checked the Nurse Corps official facebook page and it says that all applicants will get an e-mail (accpetance or rejection) by September 30, 2014. I am hoping we don't have to wait that long! Any news, good or bad, is welcome!

Thanks everyone, and good luck to anyone else who applied!!

I got the real one this time!:roflmao:

No recall that I know of. I submitted the additional paperwork they asked for and now the application is in 'final review'.

Good luck!

Anyone able to help me figure out how to search specific cities to find out if a hospital is an approved health facility?

Go here: Find Shortage Areas: HPSA by State & County

thanks but that doesn't tell me specific hospitals/clinics. Or does it and I'm missing it?

I just took a screenshot of the county I live in and yes, these sites listed are the actual names of the clinics/ facilities. Did you choose a state, county and discipline from the drop down menus in the blue box? If what you're seeing for the state and county you looked up is similar to this and you're not familiar with the locations listed you should just look them up online. For example, one of the locations listed above for Alameda county is the "Lifelong Medical Center," which I had never heard of, so I do a google search for "lifelong medical center alameda" and the first thing that comes up is their website. Now, maybe this is an example of what you're talking about, because when I go to the site, it appears to be a small network of clinics with multiple locations and then I find myself needing to look up each physical location, which is mildly inconvenient, but hey, so what? One trend I've noticed when doing these searches is that many of these critical shortage sites are lacking in terms of internet presence, for whatever reason, making it more difficult than expected to find info about them. I have a suspicion that this phenomenon may be worse depending on the region of the country, the population, etc. Is this accurate in your case?

Thanks! This is what I'm seeing. I recognize the correctional facility, but I'm wondering about the clinics. I would like to know which clinics specifically and I'm guessing since I do not see any hospitals on there, that none in that county are HRSA approved locations. I'm searching escambia county, FL.

I know it's inconvenient but you just got to do the legwork yourself, and just look up the clinics on your own. It kind of makes sense though, that a medical network, even a small one is going to require that you go to their main website and look up their job listings under "careers," right? That's the same principle with many of these small clinics. There may be jobs at satellite clinics affiliated with the HPSA grantee, but that just means you have to start at the website for the grantee and then continue from there. My local general hospital (in Oakland), Highland hospital, would be awesome to work at but they're not even on this list, meaning they most likely haven't been evaluated by the HRSA for their status as a HPSA. If you poke around on the HRSA website it details the process for a specific facility to apply to be evaluated for HPSA scoring. I imagine that process takes a while. I know it may be humbling but us HRSA scholars may not be in a position (time and place) to land a hospital job that fulfills our scholarship, but I would encourage you to look at it from the perspective that any experience is good experience and that the total time commitment is only a few years, after which you're free to go and work wherever you can find your dream job.

I graduate in may and am currently searching for facilities in escambia county. I was wondering if you had any advice now that I'm sure you've gone through the whole process (bc this post is so old). Are there any hospitals in escambia that qualify? Thanks so much!
