I'm in my third year in college and still finish my pre-reqs :(

My parents are forcing me to finish ASAP!

Just wondering how many years did it take you guys to finish the whole nursing program meaning from completing your GE, taking the pre-reqs, and completing the nursing program?

Specializes in Emergency.

I didn't have any pre-reqs to take. Should be four years total for my BScN (keeping my fingers crossed for my last semester!). At my school you only have 6 or 7 years to complete the program from when you start. No lollygagging here.

I did my ADN first it took 3 years then went back for BSN it took just over 2 years maybe 2 1/2.

I went straight BSN, I had to do summer school and intersession in order to complete in exactly 4 years carrying 12-13 credits a semester.

Specializes in NICU, High-Risk L&D, IBCLC.

I took anywhere from 6-17 credit hours each semester, including a few summer sessions - completed my BSN in five years.

I'm hoping I complete my BSN by the time I'm 24. Does that sound about right? Sigh, I've never felt the pressure to step it up and get my degree till now.

Right now I'm in an ADN program. I just finished my first semester and I have three more left to go. I already had two years of school before I started nursing; one year of gen. ed. classes and one year of pre-reqs for nursing. So by the time I get out of my ADN program I will have been in school for 4 years. Then I plan to go back and get my BSN right afterwards, which will take another year plus a couple summer classes. In case that didn't make sense ;)...

Year 1: General Education

Year 2: Pre-reqs

Year 3: ADN

Year 4: ADN

Year 5: BSN (2 semesters + summer classes)

This is just my situation. There are numerous ways to get to a BSN.

Oh, and I started college when I was 17 and I'm 20 now. If all goes according to play I'll have my BSN right before I turn 23. Then I plan to go back and get my MSN eventually, and I'd like to have that before I'm 30. God willing this all works out for the best. :uhoh3:

Just thought I'd share that extra with you fine people... :lol2:

Specializes in ER, CCU.

it will take me 5 years to complete my BSN. I did my one year pre-req's in 1 1/2 years and then my application wasn't even looked at for the next semester. Should have been 4 1/2 but oh well like 40% of the students at my school do it in 5 years. I'm not alone and i will be done in 3 semesters so i'm so happy about that!!

Specializes in ER,ICU and Progressive Care Unit,Peds.

I completed my BSN in 3 1/2 yrs.

But I took a bunch of my pre-reqs as duel enrollment courses while I was in high school, so I started with 23 hrs when I got to my college.

Plus, summer school.

I wanted out of school asap!
