How many hours/days per week do you spend in clinical?

I'm just wondering. (:

I am in Med/Surg 2 in a BSN program. We go to the hospital 2 days per week, 9 hour days each. I'm on a cardiac progressive care unit, so anything can happen. It's great! We also have two observation days built in. I go next week to observe in the OR and in-patient wound care. We also have a community day where we go to the homeless shelter and do some teaching at different stations. So, really, we have 5 more weeks of hospital clinical left aside from the community/obs days.

What about you?

Specializes in Neonatal Nurse Practitioner.

We get a little more than 1200 in our program. You get 60 before you even start the program, 96 in the first semester, and the rest during the nest 4 semesters.

I'm in second semester and we have 15 hours per week over three days. We also have observational experiences, OR and such, but those don't count toward clinical hours.

Specializes in Pediatrics.

Last semester we had 1 day for 4 hours each week in assisted living/community health. This semester it sounds like we'll have a 5 hour clinical split between a nursing home and hospital once a week plus a 3 hour skills lab. Next year will be three 8 hour days each week for both semesters. I can't say I'm impressed with our clinical set up or progression.

I'm in my 3rd semester (BSN). For MedSurg 1, we have a 12 hr clinical 1 day a week, every other week. We also have a 4 hr simulation lab on opposite weeks 1 day a week. For Mental Health Nursing, we have an 8 hr clinical 1 day a week, every week.
