How do you handle dry reading material?

My fundamentals of nursing book is starting off really dry. I wouldn't exactly call it boring...it's just really dull. It's bad enough I have a problem with procrastination so this book is really challenging for me. All the other textbooks we have for my nursing class are pretty interesting...even the drug calc book is a whole lot more fun to read than the fundamentals book. Any suggestions?

I thought I had a big problem going on. Thank God others are having the same problem as me!

What book is everyone using for Fundamentals?

Mine is: Fundamentals of Nursing by Kozier, Erb, Berman and Burke

Specializes in step down/progressive care.

Hi All,

I was just starting to read mine last night as well. Mine is by Mosby's and it is huge (over 1,000 pages and very heavy) the material doesn't look difficult but it does seem like alot to read.

Good luck!

We are using the Potter and Perry's Fundamentals of Nursing book. I am gonna have strong arms lugging that monster around!

the first three chapters you have mentioned are the same ones in my book also.

stephany and tonya, do you have the fundamentals of nursing book by helen harkreader? i was surprised to find out we will cover 90+ % of that 1600+ page book in the next 16 weeks!

i am in shock after the first week! i even took 2 naps this week after class----and i never take naps. after 10 hours of lecture and 4 hours of lab (standing the entire lab) my back ached and my brain was on overload....i am worn out and overwhelmed right now...i have a week off because we are off monday and tuesday for labor day, so maybe i can catch up!

mondays and thursdays, i only have one class each on wednesdays i have two classes and no classes on fridays. but, i am going to be studying for two tests and some other reading assignments.

we are only off for labor day on monday. i will be studying then too.

we are in for a loooonnnng ride! :chuckle on second thought, it's not too funny! lots of love

you were able to come home and read after 10 hours of lecture on the same day!!!! --all i could do was drag myself into the house and lay down...i am going to start walking today...the only way i am going to survive is to get in better shape...

i stress about it too much, i think i am going to have to relax and not live for "a's", if i am going to enjoy any of this program...

i noticed the postings from students seems to be down... i wonder if they are all in shock, as i am!!

Specializes in LTC, ER, ICU,.

it wouldn't suprise me if everyone, like myself, is in total shock!

yes, i am trying to get in a habit of taking a few minutes to wind down and to read before retiring. if i am just toooo tired, i am going to go to sleep becuause it won't do any good anyway.

susan, there is nothing wrong with wanting to get "a", but if you get a "b" or even a "c" on somethings, don't stress it. you and all of us can only do so much with the time, hands, mind, and body that we have.

i want the best grades, but i am not going to stress over a "c" either. i hope i don't. lots of love

enjoy your weekend!

I would have to say, "Yes, we are ALL in total shock."

I too passed out in the afternoon... 3 times this week. I freaked out that I wouldn't be able to handle the classes and then the reading on top of it without a VERY strong stimulant of some sort.

I have class MW: 8a-12p and then a 5-6:15 history Tues: 8a-12:30p and 4 days a week I am required to log-on to my online Pathophysiology class (i think i'm an idiot for that one).

LPN, FutureRN - my Fundamentals is the 6th ed. as well. At least it's kinda pretty on the outside. :D

Hugs,

Alyssa
