Money did it for me. My wife is an RN and when she found her last job she submitted her resume and got a call for an interview 12 hours later. I have a 2 year old son, but thank God I have plenty of help with babysitting when I need extra time to study.

Can it be done? yes. But I won't sugarcoat the fact that it will take dedication and hard work. Nursing school is downright hard, time consuming, and stressful.

With me a seed got planted when I was about 16. I was working in the dietary dept in a local nursing home. I loved what little interaction I got with the residents. I seen how the CNA's had all the hands on with them and I wanted that. I latter found out I had to take classes to be a CNA. During that part of my life I wasn't thinking of a career or schooling at all. I got married to my high school sweetheart (still with him). We have 2 boys 6 and 2. I have been at home with them up until this year(2001-2007). I finally decided to get my CNA . I now work 3rd shift at a small assisted living facility. There isn't much for us to do at night. So I use that time to study out of about 5 nursing workbooks and textbooks I have bought. I'm hoping to start school fall 08. Its according of our finances and getting in. Everyone says how demanding it is so I figure the more I know the better. I want to continue to work with the elderly. They are so different from people today, I find alot of joy being with them.

P.s Yea and of course the money. My pay is crap, I want better for my family. And to be someone my children can look up to. Husband has a good job with decent pay but for a family of 4 its a little short of being enough.

*Long Post Be Prepared*

When I was sixteen years old I had a dream to be an MD. I honestly thought that this was destiny. I exceled in all the sciences and pushed myself in high school to the extreme to prepare for college. Then in my junior year in high school I was accepted into a CNA licensure class at my HS. I decided hey this is a good way to get a foot into the medical field.

My CNA professor who was an RN pushed me even further to be an MD, giving medical dictionaries and giving me after school lessons in medical terminology. She gave me an invitation do the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine in Washington DC.

I went and those were the 12 most amazing days of my life. I stayed at Georgetown University and had an audience with the Surgeon General of the US (richard carmona) I spoke to the dir. of the NIH, i went to their genetics lab, i got to go to the gross anatomy lab it was inspiring to say the least.

But after talking to all these doctors and residents i came to a realization that this really is not my calling. I want to be the one my patient sees constantly. I want to be the pillar of support, i want to be an advocate defending the rights of my patients. I chose to become an RN,

I feel that this is truly my calling.
