Hi everyone. I am currently in a community college trying to get my prerequisites done. I've always wanted to something in the medical field and after changing my major a million times I realized that I would love to do nursing. I just want to know HOW competitive is it getting into schools ?

Specializes in Nursing Management.

It's extremely competitive. Make sure to do your best and look up the school's admission policy. Most schools do not accept multiple attempts of certain classes and a W can be considered an attempt. Best of luck to you. This job is tough but rewarding.

It's pretty competitve, but how competitive it is varies by school. The average accepted applicant for my CC has a 3.8 GPA

I agree with BoxingRN. There are usually over 400 applicants at USA and only 60 are selected. Keep your GPA up and make sure you are taking the right prerequisites for the degree you select. Prerequisites for an ADN program usually differs from a BSN program. I start the BSN program at the university of south Alabama in May and their prerequisites are a little different from the local community college ADN program. Good luck!!!

It definitely depends on your area. I was not competitive for the local community college program in my city (I got A's and B's and maybe 1 C). I expanded my horizon and got into an ASN program that's about an hour commute no problem. If you want it enough you make sacrifices.
