Home office for school work

Hey everyone I'm currently in the process of converting my youngest child's room into my home office/study place for me and me only. The baby is bunking in his two big brothers room :) they love sharing a room! The space is quite small so I don't have a ton of room but I feel it is enough room. I was just wondering what your study space set up is like an what are your must haves and must nots? Also pics would be great too!

My fiancé and I are trying to figure out where to put my study space. We have a 3 bedroom house and an almost 2 year old. The third bedroom is "his" office and he despises me going in there for ANYTHING... Not exaggerating. He wants to put my study space in our daughters room so I can "watch her while I study" YEAH RIGHT. Since our bedroom is the largest I'm thinking of putting a small desk and bookshelf for me in there to use. The only furniture in there now is the bed and tv!

He had better not suggest that you lock yourself up with your 2 year old to study anytime after school actually begins or he might be met with a solid right hook, lol.

I guess if he refuses to share you can put it in your bedroom but that may be hard. Our bedroom is designated for sleep and the horizontal hula ONLY. Well, sometimes the little one and I jump on the bed and we all wrestle around but there is no way I'd like school weasel its way in there. It's a sacred place, lol.

One guy who has 3 kids said he just stays an extra hour on campus partially due to gas and mainly because he won't study when he gets home. There's always laundry or the kids want to play. So if he is not there, he doesn't have to feel as guilty locking himself away to try and study.

YIKES! What's the deal with not getting to use the office space, assuming it's big enough? I would very much judge my boyfriend if he wasn't willing to share like that.

OP, the only essentials I have found the need for in my study space (pardon my redundancy) are the following:

1) NOWHERE NEAR MY BED! Seriously, I can't even study in my bedroom.

2) Huge workspace, such as a large desk, kitchen table, etc.

3) Excellent, bright lighting for those late nights.

My work area is near the laundry space in our house. It's got a rather tiny little table, but there is plenty of space on the floor around me to spread out books and papers. I set it up with a nice lamp, and I hope to put up a whiteboard soon (watching House reruns has convinced me that this would be a good study strategy). I also make sure to have pens/pencils, markers and index cards, all of my books, and plenty of water/lip balm so I don't have to get up every five minutes.

The only thing it lacks is a closed door. I wish I had a way to keep the noise down, as my space is right upstairs from the main living area, so I can hear pretty much everything going on in the house. Luckily, my mom is a pretty quiet roommate. :)
