Hip joint pain

I posted this in the General Discussion to....trying to find an answer. If you have any ideas, please, please, please let me know!!

Saturday night I was sleeping soundly (and I mean soundly) when my right hip joint woke me up. I was in so much pain it wasn't funny. So I figured "ok, roll over to the other side and go back to the sleep" so roll over I did. Didn't even get to sleep, the left side was just as painful. This kept me up most of the rest of the night. The only relief I got was to lay on my back and even then the pain was still there. When I got up out of bed the next morning, the weight on my joints made it even more painful. Soooo I called the doc and went to see him. When he had me lay down and moved my leg away from my body, I almost kicked him, the pain was so great (on a scale of 1-10 it was definetely a 10! It was a "feel like a horse kicked me....burning pain). He then said that we were going to get some xrays and probably an MRI afterwards. He also stated that it may be rheumatoid arthritis or Leggs Perthe disease. He prescribed percocet and set up another appointment for me for a follow up.

Went for the xray and when I got home I researched Leggs Perthe and found that it was a juvenile disease of the head of the femur (degenerative) and it affected mostly males from age 5-8 (I definetely don't fit into that category)

It woke me up again last night even with the percocet!

Has anyone experience/seen anything like this before...if so, what was it? Any ideas would be greatful (please be blunt, because research is how I found my adenomyosis). Thank you.

im sorry you hurt so bad. Since it came on so suddenly, do you think that maybe you have pulled a muscle in your lower back? I get muscle spasms sometimes, and they wake me up too. As soon as I abduct my leg it is a seering burned pain right in the hip joint located more towards the front side of my body than the back.

Having you tried sleeping with a big fluffy pillow between your thighs? It seems to help me on nights that I hurt really bad.

I really dont know what it would be if not a muscle spasm or a pinched nerve, but you might try the pillow. Wish I could help more.

Sending prayers your way,

:) Thanks Brandy! No muscle spasm or pinched nerve. Doc checked that out. It is centered on the pressure point of the hip joint. Even when I am standing. This is soooo aggravating!! I should get the xray results tomorrow or the next day (I hope:) ) and then on to MRI. Doc couldn't order an MRI without an xray first because of my stupid insurance company:( :( :( .

But I'll keep searching for an answer for this.

Thanks Brandy!:D

Essarge,

I feel for you, dear.

I have almost the same kind of hip pain, and after many weeks of testing and etc, the verdict came back arthritis, which I live with... Seems the doc just thinks I am getting older, and things just ain't the way they were.

I sure hope that you find the source and get rid of it. I don't sleep very much anymore because of it.

Take care, and keep us posted.

My friend and I were joking about the fact that even though we think like a kid every once in awhile, our body jumps in and reminds us that we are ......4**** something!! LOL!

Thanks for the positive thoughts!:)

:o :o . You poor thimg, I can sympathise with you as I am going through the same thing right now. After putting up with pain in my hips that kept me awake (your right, you cant get into a position that doesnt hurt) and having tried all the over the counter drugs, I finally gave in and went to see the doc. I had all the tests and finally got a diagnosis of osteoarthritis- at 30!. I tend to get flair ups of pain, some days its bad, some not so bad. The doc gave me some Diclofenic which has worked really well. I also started taking a cod liver and evening primrose capsule, might be an old wives tale, but it seems to help and the flair ups are less intense. As well as sleeping I also find going up stairs and sitting in the car painfull, how about you?.

I wish you all the best and hope you get it sorted soon.

It seemed to be a little better today so like an idiot I ran some errands. I can feel it coming on now. Yes, even driving the car (especially my right hip). Doc got the report back today, but didn't call me and let me know what the results were....guess I'll have to bug him:) . This is really aggravating for me, especially being in school and going into the field that I'm going into.

I told my friend that if nothing else, I could get a job with an insurance company when I graduate!! LOL!

OOOOH Essarge I am sorry to hear about your pain:o I hope you find something out soon.

Hope you get to feeling better
