Help with Nursing Diagnoses!!!

I just got this question:

Mr. Stephen had a knee replacement four days ago. He has a splint on his leg and has to use crutches to ambulate. He is allowed up in the chair today but has stated that heh doesn't want to make the transfer to the chair.

List 4 types of diagnoses:

1) actual

2) risk

3) syndrome

4) wellness

I am going to sound like a real B but are you looking for help or do you want someone to do your HW for you? What are you having difficulty with? Do you have a nursing care plan book? There are some excellent links in the sticky section of this forum for links to website that will help you find ND and care plans.

First of all, let me tell you that I have no idea what a syndrome type of nursing diagnosis is. I have never heard that term before. So, you're on your own with that one!

Since this is a case scenario of a non-real patient you have to make some assumptions about his medical diagnosis before you go any further. You need to know what is involved in knee replacement surgery, what the complications are of having had a general anesthestic and, specifically, the proper post-op care of the knee in the immediate post-op period. That is where you start.

After reading these resources then you should be able to compare what Mr. Stephen should be doing against what he is NOT doing. From that you can make a better determination of what nursing problems he has. It is from his nursing problems that you choose your nursing diagnoses.

I just got into the nursing program, and tomorrow is my first day of class. I just read the syllabus and notes for my classes, and came across this question. I have no experience or whatsoever in it. So please don't be a B to me...

I think it's wonderful that you are being proactive but try to enjoy your last day of freedom before your life is consumed by NS. Trust me you will do enough care plans to last a lifetime before the end of the semester.

yoginurse. . .when it comes to care plan and nursing diagnosis questions i can usually tell when a student doesn't have a clue as to what is going on from the way a question is presented. you should be happy i didn't go into a long lecture about how to choose a nursing diagnosis, which i sometimes do. you probably would have been really worried.

you are going to learn how to answer a question like this soon enough. right now you don't have enough information about the nursing process to do that. there are lots of resources on the allnurses nursing student forums to help you when you get to the point of having to answer a question like this. and, i'm always looking for questions like yours every day because care plans and nursing diagnoses are something i know pretty well.

there are two threads that specifically address nursing care plans, case studies and nursing diagnoses and if you are still interested, you should read the posts on them to see what you are really in for! :roll and, i honesty have never heard of a syndrome nursing diagnosis. this must be something that is taught in your country, so you must tell me what it is when you learn about it.
