Good clinical day.....

I just have to share my day that gave me a nice feeling. I helped a 17 year old new mom breastfeed her baby!! :yeah:The baby was preferring one breast over the other and she was getting kind of discouraged, sooo I showed her a little trick I used myself by simply using the football hold and she latched right on. She looked up at me with a big smile and said "THANK YOU"...she was so happy! I walked out of there feeling like I really helped and honestly haven't felt like that yet being in my 2nd semester. Anyway...just wanted to share my happy feelings, lol. :D

Thanks for the support! Well last night was my last maternity clinical and I'm soooooo glad it's over!!! I hated every minute of it except for my experience that I posted about. Actually last night was a good last clinical. I had another mom adamant about breastfeeding. Well the nurse came in to ask how the baby was eating etc etc. I don't want to get into details but she gave some shall we say, uninformed information. So she walked out of the room and I told the mom differently, I don't care if that was wrong of me to go against the nurse or not but she told her somethings that could end breastfeeding, so I felt the need to correct her. So anyway, the mom seemed very receptive to me, perhaps because I gave her my experiences and how I let my daughter self wean at 20 months....so maybe she trusted me that I knew what I was talking about. Anyway later on I was going through my evaluation with my instructor (she's a CNM) and I told her how I corrected the nurse and told her what I said. She then offered me a job, lmao! She works in the OB care clinic in the hospital and they need someone to talk to moms about breastfeeding because the lady that does it retired. She can tell I'm knowledgeable about breastfeeding so she asked if I'd be interested, lol. Cool! So anyway....it was a good last night!

Glad it was a good last night. Ours Ped/OB class started yesterday but we will onloy have 7 total clinical days, 3 Peds and 3 OB and 1 Pediatric Respite care. I miss just regular clinicals being done. We won't have those again until like Oct I think it is or Sept. After Peds OB we are off for summer then start with Psych for the first half and Advanced Med/Surge for second
