I failed my first nursing school exam. I got a 57. I probably could have studied more than I did, but I ended up taking the practice exam they gave us and doing some questions in the book and literally getting every single one right. I guess in my head I thought oh well I don't need to do too much studying I got all those questions right I should be good. I also have adhd and have serious trouble concentrating on something for more than 30 minutes so getting all those questions right was kind of like a "free pass" to procrastinate.

I feel awful cause now I have to go meet with all the teachers to discus the rest of the semester. I already calculated that I have to get at least a 78 on every other exam i can pass with the minimum grade. I just feel so stupid right now. The questions were not at all what i expected and it seemed like they put alot in there that were really tricky (ex. Same exact answer written twice just worded differently)

Anyone have any good study tips or practice question suggestions?

Hello, don't feel bad. It happen to me in my ADN, and it was due to my study habits. However

One good tip I can give you is know the rationale not just memorizing the reading example if a heart patient with pitting edema, know why they developed pitting and how to prevent it and what do you anticipate the doctor will order.

Are you sure about those 78s on all future exams giving you a passing grade? In my program we have to have an 80 to pass. 80-84 is a C, whether it's exams or final grade. Below that is failing. Just wanted to make sure you aren't underestimating that number. My professors give us chapter objectives and if we study the material they put on the objectives we can pass. I don't even go by the syllabus anymore, just the unit objectives. And I study by hand writing the power points and reading, reading, reading.

75 is the lowest grade we need to pass the course. So there are 5 exams plus clinical and some online coursework. I calculated everything and all I would need to get the 75 is 78's on all the exams. The clinical grade and online coursework grade are easy 100's all you have to do is make sure you show up/get the work done by the deadline.

I think the testing style was just very different for me. I'm hoping now that I now what it's like this will all be much easier for me. Thanks for the tips also!

You're lucky in the PN program that I am in we have to make at least 80 on everything to pass. I will tell you that my first nursing test in foundations I barely passed it. You can't ever feel too confident because you may know the information but when they ask you the question most of the time every answer is right but they want the BEST answer. It's really aggravating but I have finally gotten the hang of it and you will too! You just have to keep trying different study methods til you get it right! I purchased a voice recorder and I record all the lectures and that helps me TREMENDOUSLY!!! That way I can really focus on listening during class and then take notes from the recordings when I get home! Now I'm making 90s on everything so try that if you can! I suffer from ADD too so I know how you feel. I wish you luck with everything and you're going to do great! Don't get too down on yourself! You have time to pull it up! :))

We don't get a grade for our clinical experience. It is pass/fail only.

Tape lectures helped me. Sometimes you just have to brush off a fail, and focus on doing better on the next one. Just keep thinking I can do it
