I was hoping to get some feedback on how people feel about e-portfolios. Our school is requiring us to make one and put pieces of work we did in the past to show that we have met our program outcomes.

Do employers really look at your 10 page research papers and previous assignments?

Can anyone comment on if it helped you secure a job over the traditional resume and cover letter?

Is it helpful?

Thank you.

In a word - "No". New grads are pretty much interchangeable - from a hiring manager's viewpoint, and they don't have the time to review all the dandy stuff you did while in school. BUT - what you are learning as you go through the process of assembling your portfolio -- that is valuable. Keep up that portfolio, updating it with your achievements as they occur. In a few years when you are looking for a job as an experienced nurse, especially if you are seeking a specialized or higher-level job, that portfolio will be much more important to prospective employers.
