I was looking through FastWeb for scholarships and I came across one that listed "Dale E. Fridell Memorial Scholarship" aka "Dollarship". It states that they hand out $500 scholarships every 3 months, and the number of scholarships that they hand out depends on how many applicants they receive. Each applicant sends in an essay with $1.00 and they take $.50 of every dollar and apply it to a $500 scholarship. So for every 1,000 applications they receive one person would win. You can also apply for these every 3 months, so if your a good essay writer... then you could potentially get $2,000 a year! I'm thinking about doing this, $1.00 isn't anything to cry over.... and I think its worth a shot....
Has anyone applied for this scholarship? Has anyone actually won it? It seems like it is a legit organization, it was listed on Fastweb, which I would hope means that they are legit.....
But I'm wondering if anyone else has heard of this, or if they have applied and what happend....
Thanks,
Denise

Hello, everyone. I saw your postings about Dollarship and the Fridell Scholarship and wanted to answer your questions.
The Fridell Scholarship is separate from Dollarship. It's awarded by StraightForward Media. The point of confusion, I'm sure, is that the application essay question is the same for both the Fridell Scholarship and the Dollarship award. I am the owner of StraightForward Media and a partial owner of Dollarship, so that's why you see these two scholarships crossing over often. :)
The Fridell Scholarship is awarded once a year to one recipient. Application essays are sent by email only -- no postal mail -- and there is no $1 network donation required. The scholarship is named after my late grandfather, Dale Fridell.
Dollarship awards multiple $500 scholarships every three months (we call them Dollarships). Applications must be sent by postal mail only and include the $1 network donation.
The Fridell Scholarship is in its second year of existence. The 2003 winner was Jerried Rhodes, and you can read his winning essay here: http://www.straightforwardmedia.com/scholarship.html.
Dollarship is still in its first application period (it ends March 31), and the first rounds of scholarships will be awarded in April. In the first 15 days following the official "launch" of Dollarship on Jan. 1, we've received more than 700 essays from six countries. Because of that, we expect the number of applications (and scholarships given) to be quite high! We certainly are a legitimate operation, and are a member of the Better Business Bureau here in Arizona (we're based in Youngtown, which is a Phoenix suburb).
I hope I've addressed all your concerns here. You can get complete information on both the Fridell Scholarship and Dollarship at the following URLs:

Thanks! Please email or call us if you have any additional questions.
