I was given a tentative book list and told that I would need to buy a set from the school for a "discount" for $1,700, including ebooks. I think the ebooks are more for my help, but they make it seem like it's required.

I don't really know a nice way of asking, "Do I really need the ebooks?" I already bought all the books, some older editions for some after comparing the table of contents. I really don't like ebooks for studying.

I understand the books are huge. I wouldn't want to carry all of them to class, but how often will I be reading in class anyway? And would I really need to bring multiple books?

Any information about books is helpful. Like did you use all the books you had to buy?

Well if the electricity goes out are you reading by candle light? Sorry I couldn't resist. I honestly wish I could have e books. I use my iPad for everything.

Well I didn't even like ebooks for studying. I guess it would be easier to search for stuff but for reference books there's a glossary anyway. In guess I was more wondering when the school makes it sound mandatory if it really is. And for every single book there's like 20.

The glossary is not nearly so useful as being able to search for text strings across multiple books.

Ebooks are hit-or-miss; some people embrace them, others eschew them.

To your question, "mandatory" generally means... mandatory... at least it was thus in my program

I thought I wouldn't use e-books. And it turns out I hardly ever use the "hard copies"! I have all my books on my kindle with very easy access, virtually problem-free. It cuts down on so much time when making my study notes and saves my back when I need to lug numerous texts with me. I guess I didn't need that rolling backpack after all...

I'm actually very glad to have both kinds of books. But if I had to choose between them, I'd choose the digital content.

My nursing program had books with the hard-copy and the e-book version. I loved it because I could "carry" all my books to class on my laptop. I also got to sell back the hard-copy and still keep the e-book! It was worth it for me, but I would still use the hard-copy to study from and use the e-book as a quickly search reference or on the go reading. I could also put my e-books on my iPod touch which was awesome to use in clinicals and I didn't get in trouble because it wasn't a phone. It boils down to your study habits and what's convenient for you. My e-books also come with lifetime upgrades so I don't have to buy new versions.

What do you do when the electricity goes out? LOL! If the electricity goes out, we get out the lanterns and kerosene, candles, and we even have a wood burning fireplace;) So yes, I have done homework by candle light. I live in the country! When electricity goes out, it's out for a long time! Happened last week during the week of finals with an ice storm!

I guess it's not mandatory. It said "here are the books needed for the courses" I can always buy ebooks later and get them instantly. I can get them for the main study books. Not all 20 books on the list.
