Do any schools offer a bridge program for Surgical Techs to become nurses?

It's always been my dream to become a nurse, but due to current circumstances and how impacted the programs are in my area, nursing school isn't possible for me at this time. The local community college has a Surgical Technician program I can attend, and I'm trying to weigh out if it might be worth it to do it and work in the field for a while. I'm curious though, I know there are LVN to RN bridge programs, but are there any Surgical Tech to LVN or Surgical Tech to RN programs? I know a surgical technician is not a nurse, but I was wondering if I wanted to try to go back to school in the future if my school work and workplace experience as a surgical tech would help me get in and possibly complete a nursing program a little faster. It just discourages me a little that job growth or an increase in pay seems less likely in a CST position, and I know that eventually becoming a nurse will always be hanging out in the back of my mind. If anyone knows of a bridge program for surgical techs, please let me know! Thank you!

There are no bridge programs that I know of, however, several of your prerequisites should transfer.

My experience as an LPN of 24 years did not help me get into the local LPN-RN bridge program because the advisor didn't "think" I could handle the science requirement while completing the other aspects of the program...she wouldn't even hand me an application. So my advice to you as a pre-licensed student is to do as I did...which was to continue (or begin) taking the prerequisite courses towards what you truly want to do until a door opens up. In my case, I was able to obtain my degree online, and receive my RN license two months before I would have completed the bridge program. Good luck to you!

What an amazing story! Go you!! Thank you for sharing. If you wouldn't mind sharing what school/online program you attended that would be so awesome. Congratulations on kicking butt and proving doubters wrong!
