Coasting through Nursing Program

Funny thing happened today. After studying several days for a 10 question quiz on 3 weeks of information, the professor changed the test. :banghead:

Instead of NCLEX style questions, she asked an essay question to explain to a patient why they were supposed to take two meds according to the indicated directions. :nurse: We were supposed to use everyday language instead of pharmacology jargon. :clown:

If they continue to deviate from the traditional way the program used to test, this should be a pretty easy semester. Of course, no one will know what they're doing, but we'll all pass. :yeah:

I took pharmacology for nursing at another college, so the reduction of educational testing standard doesn't affect my education.

Please don't be jealous, just be happy for us... :chuckle

I wouldn't count on this continuing and if it does it might not be as easy to pass NCLEX as it could be if your classwork was more challenging. :wink2:

Even if the tests remain that "easy" they are doing you no favors when it comes time for NCLEX. Then you all most likely fail.

Thats cool...but like the others say... there is a method to the madness that is NCLEX style questions/tests. Practice is necessary.

Specializes in ob/gyn med /surg.

enjoy why you can... you don't want easy tests... you want to pass boards ... the whole point of being in nursing school is to pass the boards.. you can graduate from the program but you can't do a thing

with that degree until you pass boards...

pray for those NCLEX style questions.... you need them...

keep us posted on how school is going..

Personally, I think essay-type questions/answers are a better measure of one's true understanding and retention of target content than NCLEX style questions. NCLEX questions have their own style that must be learned to pass the boards, but for me personally, the studying and reviewing I needed to do to do well on NCLEX style exams was different than the kind of studying and reviewing I need to do to feel competent in my knowledge of and ability to apply nursing/medical concepts. Maybe that's just me.

Yes, I agree with the input that everyone has identified with underloading the testing. I think that it can give a false reassurance to a student that may be borderline.

I took the same class as a pre-requisite to another nursing program. I had completed much more by the time the 4th week rolled around. Pharmacology is a big part of the NCLEX and the students that haven't taken the course with a traditional nursing instructor will be at a disadvantage to pass.

Still... it's hard to convince the other students that this may not be the best way to get through nursing school. This isn't one of the areas that a prudent and reasonable nurse would want to take shortcuts.
