Clinical instructor from H*ll

Yes, I know there are many threads saying "my instructor sucks" and whatnot...this instructor, though, is actually MAKING ME LEARN (gasp!)

She is the instructor from H*ll, but I really do appreciate what she is doing. She failed me one day last week, and I had to suck it up. The following week, she said I was like a totally different person...I am taking her advice, learning from it, and moving on. It seems like she expects us to know everything that she knows (hello? I am a student...not an RN with several years of experience!); at the same time, everything that she mentioned as my "failures" that particular day, I now KNOW THEM.

I really appreciate an instructor who takes education seriously...even if she tells me I 'failed' that day, it gives me a chance to improve.

So to all good instructors/preceptors, THANK YOU.

Some instructors simply want to instill that this is a hard career and it isn't for everyone. It shows a lot of initiative to be taking their advice and learning (which is what they really expect out of you anyway).

That sounds like an awesome instructor!! I had an instructor in LPN school that was at the other end of the spectrum. She sat in the confrence room the entire med-surg and nursing home clinicals and worked on her computer. I never once saw her come out to check on her students. I was eager to learn and tried to get involved in as much as I could while at clinicals. I learned a lot but could have learned so much more if my instructor would have actually taught me something.

I am now in an LPN-BSN program and I love it! I have not started clinicals yet but wow I can tell these instructors really want to teach their students! In lab the instructor actually walks around and helps/critiques her students. Its like a breath of fresh air!! I have learned so many things that I should have already learned in LPN school. One thing I have learned in my BSN program is the proper way to take a manual blood pressure. I'v been an LPN for a year and am just now learning this!! That is sad and embarassing to admit. There are only so many things you can learn from reading a book. Sometimes you actually need someone to teach you how to do it.

Good luck soon to be RN!!! You sound like you really care and you will be a great nurse!! :-)

I am in the same boat this semester. This woman is tough and has high expectations. She is very vocal which helps me bc I am an auditory learner and I like to talk situations out. This instructor has upper semester expectations, drills things in our heads, but you learn so much from it! I secretly love her!
