BSN Questions

Nursing Students General Students

Good day everyone:

From what I've been reading/researching, BSN is the way to go for a number of reasons including studies showing BSN-based facilities have better patient outcomes. Are there any studies as to what specific BSN-based classes (as well as why) help make the difference?

Thank you.

There is a difference in the the ADN and BSN coursework. I am in the middle of an RN-BSN program and I am taking classes that we spent 5 minutes talking about. Politics and policy, leadership, EBP; they are all mentioned in the ADN program, but I am taking classes that spend a whole lot more time. I really like that I practiced for a while and then took the classes. They make more sense to me than if I had taken them pre-licensure. It is hard for to compare about the non-nursing classes because I have a BS in biology, a teaching degree and an associates in criminal justice-a very broad range of ideas that have all helped me in my nursing.

The difference is theory courses versus just the technical "doing" courses. Research, stat, leadership, management, etc are the difference. It's cut and dry unless your program is a hybrid of sorts that includes some of these types of courses in their ADN. Its not rocket science, or we'd all be rocket scientists or working towards it. Lol!
