Best backpack? Not rolling!

I know there are a million threads about this but everyone mentions rollig backpacks. I need a backpack that is okay on your back with lots of books but that is not rolling. I'm only converting over from carrying totes (I think backpacks are ugly). Can't make the complete switch to a rollig one. I know that's vain but surely there are others like me who prefer the non-rolling kind. What's your favorite?

My Jansport bookbag is great. It's a pretty good size and I feel like it's good quality, like it won't rip or anything. Plus it has a lot of pouches which I really like! And has a pocket thing for a water bottle. :)

Academy - JanSport® Big Student Backpack have the pink one and love it so much.

I use one from Sandpiper of California called a bug out bag. It's really designed for military use, but after I kept borrowing my husband's when he was home, I went and got my own. One of the things I like the best is that the inside has this lining on it that helps keep moisture out. It's definitely a large bag, but that works for me on my long days where I need materials for multiple classes, lunch and snacks, laptop, and a sweatshirt for those cranked AC rooms.

Me too! I think mine is by BlackHawk though. I plan to trade off between my huge leather Banana Republic tote, my VeraBradley tote, and the pack. The whole rolling bag thing is definitely NOT for me!!!

I'm not a fan of backpacks in general. In the past, I just carried the small basic jams port (with the big main pocket and small front pocket). However, I am afraid that just won't do it for nursing classes. Therefore, I looked all around for a backpack this summer and ended up finding an XXL Addias pack back at Marshall's. It has a laptop pocket along with two other large pockets and tons of small spaces. I think it will perfectly suit my needs. If interested, I can look for the actual model name so you can search online for one!

I believe I have a NorthFace Recon. It's really adjustable and padded and feels great. Textbook loads feel half as heavy when compared to my old backpack. North Face backpacks are usually pricey, but I hunted around online and got mine on sale with about a 33% discount.

Love this thing, I swear it has an alternate dimension that is uses for storage. I can fit every book I have in it and it doesn't kill my back when lugging it around. Also has storage for laptop and ipad and protects them well.

The best back pack I think is Sandpiper CA bugout bag. It's expensive but those things will last through hell and for a good reason. If you know anyone in the military ask them to order one for you. It was cheaper to get one through the military. I honestly strongly recommend it. All other bookbags (Swiss Gear, Sierra, etc) ripped for me. This is the only one sturdy enough to survive. I have both the bigger and the smaller bags.

I have the Navy camo but that is only available to the ones in the military.

Good day:

I'm not sure whether it is the best or not the best; I think it will fit what I need. I ended up getting the eBags TLS Workstation Laptop Backpack. I've tested it at home, and it can easily carry four to five books (one of them the main A&P 1, very thick book) along with associated notebooks. The overall construction looks solid.

My only complaint is that the water bottle area looks like it can only handle one eight to twelve ounce bottle. Given I drink a lot of water, and typically use a sixteen ounce bottle, that's a slight bummer.

Thank you.

I got this backpack and it's definitely worth the investment. It is really roomy and carries a ton and I never feel tired. I love all the pockets

I've never been into rolling backpacks either and totes tend to hurt my shoulder after a while. However I love my Dakine backpack - it's really sturdy, has nice wide padded straps, and holds everything I need including a laptop (I got the larger 33 liter men's size for the extra room). They're a little pricey (I got the "Campus" pack for around $60) but after almost 2 years it still looks almost new, no signs of wear and tear at all.[/quote']

I'm with you on this one! I've used my Dakine for 4 years of undergrad as well as the year I took my Nursing prerequisites. Old faithful for sure!

I use the Get carried away tote by Vera Bradley. It's huge and holds everything, including my laptop.

Anything with big, wide shoulder straps is going to be best on your back. It'll last longer if it's made from canvas or leather, not a cloth type of fabric.
