ATI TEST =(

So I need some words of wisdom from some people who have been in my place or are currently in my place, I just took my Pediatric ATI exam today and failed and so now I have failed out because of this:cry:. I have an average of an 85 in the class and am doing great in clinicals but because I didn't get a level 2 on this exam I am out of the class. I had about a week in a half left and 1 more semester to graduate. It really sucks and I am lost on what to do. Any advice?????

Good job helpingothersinlife!

I took the ATI test today as well and I got a level 1!!!!

Pretty much all of my classmates got a level 2 and 3...

I cant get the questions right! :crying2: In my head, I think that's the right answer but nah, it's wrong. :crying2:

I was confident on all of my answers when I took the test and just as I hit the end button, my eye caught this LEVEL 1 on the top of the page. My heart was crushed.

Help. Anybody?

Where do you all go to school at, cuz i am thinking some of you are my claasmates :)........the way my school is set up now is we HAVE to have a Level 2 to pass because it is weighted so heavily with our final grade, so unless you have pretty much a 100% in the class you are in jeopardy of being kicked out of the whole program, yes kicked out! ATI testing is stupid and i personally don't think this should be making or breaking students who will make awesome nurses! Just because someone can pass ATI DOES NOT mean they will pass NCLEX. I don't see why this is required, maybe the school should put some faith in their program instead of buying into something that doesn't seem to be helping at all!

thanks to your replies, our school does not use this to help us at all, they just use this to pass or fail us out of the class if we do not receive a level 2 on the exam. I got a level 1, a 63.3 and needed a 65 to pass with a level 2, i don't know what else to do. I have talked to the nursing director and everything. I really think they need to use this as an assessment tool, what it is intended to be!

I haven't taken mine yet, we have to score level 2 or 3 but it is done as an assessment, we have to take it but doesn't do anything to our grade, unless we get higher level than we are, get like an extra point--and lord knows there is not usually any kind of extra credit.

if i were in your shoes, i would keep going, take the semester over (imagine how easy it will be), and if you know this is going to fail you, drop if you can before drop period is gone, so you get a W on your transcript instead of an F, but don't quite; it sounds like you are doing well in the class, so you should be a wonderful nurse . . . don't quit! we need good nurses out there! mine is on maternity and peds as well, will let you know what happens, but yes, our admission testing was just an assessment too, we got in by grades, and the ATI is supposed to only be an assessment as well. I feel very lucky now. Even if they change their ways at your school, though, this isn't probably going to take effect currently, where it would help you out; however, because you are so close I would try dean/administration; problem is, if they make exceptions, they have to keep making exceptions, but don't forget you can always do it again, the whole semester, and do really well. I know it kinda sucks not being with your group/new friends, but you will make more, and everybody there has worked hard to get there, and I think at my school it was very cool that everybody had the "we're all in this together" attitude, absolutely wonderful people, thank goodness; when i was doing bad on my tests at the beginning, I was thinking about dropping, getting my grade up but without any cushion yet, so I will be making a decision to drop in the next couple weeks, biggest problem for me is I want to stay with my friends, but my grades and career have to come first, so I will do what I have to do to be a nurse.

It really depends on what you want to do for a career, or rest of your life possibly, and be happy. Remember how hard you have worked here and get through Level I and to have an 85 in Level II, sounds like you have the umpf and desire to do well.

You'll find out what you want to do all by yourself. Just think about what you want for an outcome.

Good luck to you whatever you decide :)

I'm really sorry for yoU!! We only take the comprehensive ATIs a the end of semester 2 & semester 4. Our school doesn't at all factor it into our grades. It is used as an assessment tool as to our predictability of passing the NCLEX-PN or NCLEX-RN. We get a print out of the areas we struggled with & our clinical instructor goes over an action plan with us as to how we can improve.

I think it is completely inappropriate that you get failed out for receiving a low score on one ATI. It seems to me like your school is not really focused on the success of each individual student, but rather their NCLEX pass rate.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of college do you attend? Private? State? Community?
