At what point can a NY State RN student take the LPN exam?

I've written to the State Board of Nursing in New York State and they told me to ask the professors at my school who do not seem to know.

Is it even possible for a RN student at some point to take the LPN exam? My employers wife has been harassing me about missing days for clinical and next fall I will be missing more days so I think I need to think about making a move.

My biggest problem is that I am the bread winner and being a father of three and married to the best wife in the world I need insurance and a decent salary to survive.

My wife and I have been discussing medical billing from home but everyone wants someone with experience. If my wife was able to do the medical billing I could look for a job that offers insurance but I'd certainly have more options with my wife's income as a medical biller.

Heh, looks great on paper but what are the chances of it actually working out hehe? Slim to none....

Hey,

Our school (in NYC) told us that RN students could no longer write the LPN exam after the first year of clinical classes. I do think it changed in the last few years. Some of our students were able to get jobs as PCA's though.

good luck

it's actually a state law now that an rn student cannot take the lpn boards since they concluded that both titles do different things. in other words, an rn student would be working out of his/her scope of practice by working as an lpn.

good luck to you and your family.:heartbeat

An RN student may not take the LPN and be licensed as such in NYS.
