You can apply to ABSN, ADN, tradition BSN or even direct entry MSN programs. There are many different entries into nursing. I have a BA and MPH. I am currently in an ADN program because it is the least expensive and most family friendly route so that works for me. You would apply as a transfer student.

Hi all,
I've been a silent reader of allnurses for a while and just decided to take the leap and make an account!
I just graduated from UC Irvine with a degree in Public Health Policy (I graduated in 3 years: 2012-2015). My plan was to use what would be my senior year as a gap year in which I could finish the pre-req classes that are needed for nursing. So far, I'm on track with a 3.85 pre-req GPA, and as of late September I will only have Microbio and A&P II left to finish.
I've looked at a lot of post-bac and ABSN programs and I plan on applying to those, but I was also wondering if it would be possible for me to apply to universities as a new or transfer student in the fall. I've heard that second degree programs are extremely competitive and even those students that have 4.0 GPAs are sometimes denied, so I want to have as many options to apply to as possible. Also, I'm assuming my pre-requisites won't be done until around the end of December, meaning that most deadlines for 2016 programs will already have passed, so if I applied as a new or transfer student it won't be a prerequisite to already have certain classes done before applying, right?
I might be completely off the mark here, and that's why I wanted to turn to others to see if anything like this is possible or if my ideas are even somewhat on-point.
Thank you so much for your input!
