HI guys, I know this is a little awkward, but I was just looking for a nurse/ penpal in the Northeast. I"m completely enamored with Boston, NY and would love to know some things about CT and VT and NY.

Someday, when I graduate and do travel nursing, I totally want to work in these places.

Any feedback plz would be appreciated...

i.e. the city, cost of living, the hospitals, whether one really needs a car, and the wonderful people.

have a super day.

Hi Pilar,

I live in the Southeast now - but I'm from the Boston area and can at least give you some info about it.

My brother and his wife are both Nurses at Boston City Hospital - at least I think it's still called that. Boston is a beautiful city with tons of hospitals to choose from for employment. If you live anywhere near the downtown area - where most of the hospitals are located - commuting by public transportation - subway/bus, walking, etc. is very easy. Boston is known for it's "insane drivers" - so you probably wouldn't want to have a car there.

I will tell you this - Boston and all of Mass has gotten

UNBELIEVABLY EXPENSIVE (that's why I don't live there anymore). My brother and his wife make great money at Boston City - but they moved to the Southshore to be able to afford a home and have to drive quite a distance each day into work. Most apartment rent anywhere in or near the city would be several thousand a month - ouch!!!

Only major complaint I've ever heard from them is - their hospital is always understaffed and the Nurses have quite a patient load most days.

I'm not sure how the traveling Nurses program works - if they furnish an apartment for you close to the hospital or if you have to get your own place. It would be great if they'd set you up with a place to live while you're there - that would save you a ton.

The City itself is wonderful - so much to do and see and you can easily walk to all sorts of great museums, historical places, China Town, the North End (Little Italy), restaurants, the harbor, etc. (that's the part I miss the most). The people are like anywhere else - some are friendly, some aren't.

Hope you get to visit Boston someday - good luck to you. SusanNC
