Hello,

Well, I am almost done . I have been in nursing school for 3 years. I am a practical nursing student and I have my practicum coming up for the next 3 weekends, 12 hour shifts each day. I am a nervous wreck:eek: . We are told that we will have 4-5 patients to care for as if we were a graduate nurse. I know that there will be a nurse with me that will be there when I have a question, but that is not helping how nervous I am feeling. Frankly I am scared. I want to make sure I get everything done that needs to be done, you know assessments, med passess, treatments, charting and the list goes on. Anyways I wonder if some of you might have some advice on how to approach my days that will help me get through this.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

( yes I have been in school for 3 years, going for my associates degree:) just want to explain for any of you who may be wondering why I have been in school so long for LPN)

I am finishing my practicum this week.. but I was in OB so that's alot different than med/surg (or wherever) that you regularly have 4-5 patients.

My preceptor has been great and has led the way for me, I hope yours is just as good! Mine was of the "see one, do one, teach one" mindset, so I spent the first couple of days mostly observing how she did things, even when it was something I had done before. I am probably going to go to work on that unit, so she is basically orienting me early.

There have been some posts here on allnurses before about organizing your day... maybe try looking through the graduate nurse forum, there are usually some overwhelmed people there looking for tips!

Thank you for replying. It is good to here about your practicum. It is always encouraging to hear the good! I will be doing my practicum on a med/surg floor and a cardiac floor. I am more afraid of med/surg than cardiac, but I know I will make it through but it is nerve wracking non the less.
