Any other over 35 students?

Nursing Students General Students

Published

I noticed Fatima started a thread for 25 - 35 year olds. I just thought I'd start another thread for us older students. If you're in your twenties, you're still a teenager in my eyes. :D

I'm taking the NA course right now and will be taking the state exam right on my birthday, July 3rd. I'm signed up to take the nursing pre reqs this fall and next spring along with other required non-nursing courses. I hope to actually enter the ASN program in the fall of 2004. I should graduate in 2006, when I'm just about to turn 45. :D

About myself, I've been married for nearly 21 years. During which time I've homeschooled our three daughters, ages 19, 17, and almost 15. The oldest is also going into nursing. The younger two are STILL being homeschooled. I'm luckier than a lot of returning students since Science and Algebra are very fresh in my mind.

My husband is a medical transcriptionist and is very good at what he does. He has total confidence in me to complete this program. :)

I really enjoy this site and am sooo happy to be back in school. :D

Oops! Almost forgot! We also have two fur babies. One is a cat we nursed from about 2 weeks old named Pooky. The other is my 2nd DDs gerbil named Justin.

Any others?

Hey Ann!

I'm 39, used to be a social worker and I homeschool too! (Which is why I work nocs.) Will your hubby be taking over the homeschooling when you start school? I will still be writing the lesson plans and reviewing my son's homework/schoolwork, but Mom will be doing the bulk of the teaching.

Actually, I'm still teaching....even while I'm taking the NA class. I have to teach Algebra this morning before going to my NA class. I figure it's not much different than if I was going to school and working. I can be a little more flexible though.

My DH works in an office at home, so he's nearly always here, but he doesn't have much to do with our homeschool. He tried teaching science one year, but he took so many days off that it took two years to complete it!

With my oldest, since she is in college now, all I do for her is go around saying, "Don't you think you should be studying right now?"

When fall starts, I hope to have some computer programs or videos to help with their school. I'm considering Alpha Omega's computer chemistry course. It sounds better than just assigning pages to read.

I love studying too! I didn't when I was in school the first time. It amazes me how easy my oldest wants to give up. She's just like I was at her age. Now I think I'm addicted to studying. I want to do it all the time. :D

In fact, I need to get off here so I can crack that book open again.

It's great that your mom is supportive enough to want to help. For a long time, my mom was just waiting for us to fail. She's proud of her grandkids now, but she lives to far away to be of any real help.

Good luck in your LPN course! I'm sure your experience as a social worker will help you in your dealings with patients. Also good luck in your homeschool. :)

Hi - not a student anymore but I did go back at 38. Graduated just before I turned 41.

I have also homeschooled all my kids through the "learning to read" years. I wanted to make sure they actually learned to read well . . .that starts at birth actually. :D

I loved it. Have a toddler now and looking forward to teaching him to read also.

Actually the truth is, we all "homeschool" if we teach our kids to talk and read to them and teach them the ABC's and counting and have them help us cook and garden and . . .well, you see my point. Parents are the first teachers!! Be proud of that role.

Hi!

Not too much important input here. Just wanted to say I am a 36 year old mom of a 12 and a 6 year old. I took pre reqs for a year and then moved to Georgia so had to back out of school until my son hit kindergarten. Went back last fall to finish up the rest of my pre reqs and am starting the official nursing program in the fall. I am so geeked up and excited! Can't wait! So Ann as you can see we are out there for sure. We only get better with age - :-) Good luck to you in your studies!!

Hi Ann,

I am 48 and about to start my 3rd year of a 4 year BSN program.

I have been an aid for over a year and was an Industrial salesman for 23 years before. I got into nursing to go into medical or pharmacutical sales but really enjoy working with the patients and nurses. This is the most rewarding work I have ever done.
