anatomy vs. physiology

Ok, I am taking anatomy right now. Instead of having a&p 1 and 2, we have one class that is anatomy and then a class that is physiology. From what I understand, anatomy is identifying parts of the body and physiology is learning the functions of those parts, right? I was just curious because we are going to be learning the whole anatomy book this semester but we are also learning functions of the different parts of the body too. I guess physiology will be going further in depth than the functions that we are learning now maybe. I was just wondering if any of you have taken anatomy and physiology as seperate classes and if they were really seperate or kind of combined as this anatomy seems to be. I feel like we are learning 2 semesters in this one and then physiology will be mostly review. I was just wondering what your thoughts were.

To KRVRN: We live in Lemoore, CA. It is close to Fresno. We may be moving to San Diego next year depending on where my husband gets his next orders. Do you go to San Diego State University nursing school? I may be applying to go there starting Fall 2003. After looking at their entrance requirements, I am pretty nervous but I think I will do ok. It just seems like it is very competative. I will love living so close to the ocean though if we do move though. I spoke with my anatomy professor today. He said that we will go much more in depth in physiology as to the whole path air goes through the body, the entire digestion process, etc. We had a quiz today that I didn't even know about. I have been studying for our lecture exam and lab exams next week though. I got a 10 out of 10 on my quiz today. I was so happy. It was really hard to study enough for this class when I was sick. Now it is easier.

This site will explain clearly why A&P should be taught together.

Does anyone know a school in NYC area that you can take them separate? I would like to take Physiology alone!!!

Thanks!

Hi,

I took anatomy first then physiology. Make sure to really learn your anatomy because physiology is that plus more. You learn how the eye sees things for example. You learn how the heart pumps blood, how the muscles contract. Having anatomy first makes it so much easier to grasp the physiology of it all. I liked physio best because it really makes sense how things work. I referenced my anatomy notes quite a bit during lectures so be diligent about saving and organizing those anatomy notes!

I took physiology the first block of this summer and am now taking anatomy in my second block. I've enjoyed having the two seperated so you can focus on one subject completely, even though in our anatomy class we dabble a bit in phsyiology, just not as thoroughly as the actual course. Good luck in your search!

Any one? NYC College that offers a Physiology class that is alone and not combined with Anatomy?

maybe try posting this question in a new thread under the New York state forum. More people from your area will see your question and can help you from there!

A&P is together at my school. I personally don't see how it can be done seperately. IMO it would make it harder to learn because you must know one thing to understand the other. I don't know....I guess if they have them seperate, it can be done. Good luck!!

Wow....just realized this is a seriously old post, lmao! This poster is hopefully a nurse by now, lol.

Anatomy is a broad view, physiology is "how it works". Quick and straight answer.
