accelerated bsn program with few pre-reqs required, and no previous bsn

Nursing Students General Students

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to know if anyone happens to know of an accelerated bsn program that does not require a previous bsn degree, and does not have a wait list?? I know I am asking for alot, however I know there has to be one out there :). I am willing to move anywhere. I have been calling state to state and am still not having much luck :(. I have completed Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Nutrition, and Lifespan Development. I also scored an 80% on my TEAS exam. The schools I have come across either require a previous bsn or more pre-reqs like public speaking or Statistics. I know I might just need to bite the bullet and take those classes, however I feel there has got to be a private or public school out there that will accept me for what I have. Any help would be much appreciated!! Thank you all!! :)

They're not really 'accelerated BSNs' - they're schools that you're transferring to directly into the BSN program as long as you have your general education classes (plus a few nursing specifics) completed. All you're doing is nursing school at that institution. You've already done MOST of the first two years elsewhere, and usually you're required to present ACT or SAT scores for admission.

A true accelerated BSN by definition requires a previous BS degree and could care less about entrance exams. You've already proven you can do undergrad work at a higher level by completing the other degree.

I think most bachelor's degrees require stats and public speaking. I'd be wary of any school meeting your criteria. If you do find one, make sure they are properly accredited!

It's called transferring to another school and it's perfectly acceptable. You do this by applying to, say, UNC and let's say they accept all of your initial coursework as transferrable. Then you apply in the same year at the same time to their nursing school, and they may or may not accept you. If they do, you're going to the nursing portion of the BSN without having had to be at the school for the whole time. Your degree will say Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UNC-CH.

Usually not all credits transfer, so sometimes you'll get conditional admission to either the uni or the nursing school.

(And I have two BS degrees - a BS and a BSN, both with honors - and I've never taken public speaking. Thank God - that would bore the crap out of me. There are also a lot of majors that never require you to take statistics. Ever. Unfortunately nursing's not usually one of them.)

Maybe it's different outside of CA. Having just completed my BSN from a state school as a transfer student, I know, at least the public universities, require both classes in order to transfer. Even the BSN nurses I know who are going for their masters have to RETAKE stats if it's been more than five years.

If there are ways around it, that's awesome. I was just warning OP to do due diligence and make sure the school is legit.
