Accelerated BSN or Direct Entry Masters Students, Come in!

I applied to vcu/mcv in Richmond, VA for entry summer '05. Fingers crossed regarding entry. I'm already studying in a diploma program for RN. Hope the fact that I'm already studying nursing helps "get me in". Unfortunately, none of the nursing classes in the diploma program transfer to the university BSN program. I'll be starting over, will lose two semesters of work. Yea I'm that unimpressed by my current diploma school.

I'm going to apply to Drexel in PA for either fall 2005 or spring 2006 entry. I'm not sure what area of nursing I want to do yet. I like ICU nursing in the absract, but I guess when I start clinicals I'll get a better feel for it. Good luck to you all!

I am currently in an accelerated BSN program at Fairleigh Dickinson Univ.

One thing you have to be prepared to do before starting this program is to be ready to put ALL your energies into it. In this program, the fall semester is the killer, and I am almost through it now At this point I can't even imagin going on for a masters after this, though I did think about it before starting.

I think any ABSN program will be intense. Good luck in your search.

Found out a couple of weeks ago that I'd been accepted into my first-choice accelerated BSN program. The euphoria lasted about a week, and now the reality is starting to hit me :stone It's going to be difficult and expensive, and it's a competitive school, but I'm still thrilled.

My program used to require immediate articulation into the masters program, but that was changed just this year. It was shortened from 16 or 20 months to twelve months and only gets you a BSN. I'm grateful for that--I want to work awhile before going for a masters.

I'll be starting a three-year, Direct Entry program in May at the University of Southern Maine, in Portland. I'll come out with a psych NP degree.

I'm starting the accelerated BSN program at Johns Hopkins this coming June, 2005. In theory, I would love to continue on in a Master's program in forensic nursing (I'm a lawyer presently), or in anesthesia, but I suspect that when I finish the BSN, I will want to work full-time and take graduate classes on a part-time basis (especially if my employer will foot the bill). For anesthesia, a year of intensive-care experience is required anyway.

Direct Entry masters here. Ohio State, starting in fall (they only start classes in fall for the DE program)

3 years for most specialties. I am doing NNP, which requires 2 years NICU experience in the middle, so mine will be 5 years.

It's a fairly competitive program I gather, and I'm very excited to start. The biggest thing for my program is you have to absolutely know what you want to specialize in, because it's so accellerated, they don't want people who are going to be waffling about.

It seems like a fabulous opportunity to me and I'm incredibly excited about starting!

Targa, just curious as to why you decided to pursue nursing. I spent two yeas in law school before realizing it wasn't for me, and deciding to become a psych NP instead. Forensics is appealing to me on an intellectual level, but my first interest is working with the chronically mentally ill.
