Wrong fit or wrong career?

One thing that I have been wondering...how do you decide if nursing, in general, is the wrong career for you versus determining that the specialty you first went into was just the wrong fit?

I struggled greatly with my first career as a cardiac progressive care unit nurse. Now I'm wondering...is it because that was just not a good area for me, or is it because nursing is not the career for me? Is there really something in the nursing field for everyone? I just don't know what to think...

It is very hard for me to imagine that there is not a great career fit for anyone in nursing. Nursing is so extremely diverse it is unreal.

I personally work in the medical industry side of things now as a consultant and my wife works for a health insurance company from home. I have friends that do medical sales, legal consulting, teach, and have their own family practice.

The hard thing is figuring out what you want to do. Life certainly does not end at the bedside.

For the first six months on my unit I struggled alot. It took me nearly a year to improve my time management. I still need help at times but it has gotten easier. That being said, your unit may not be the right fit for you. Cardiac progressive care is a difficult first job. It makes it harder if your specialty is not your passion. If you are unhappy where you are why don't you try something new? There are plenty of specialties to choose from. Peds, MBU, Neuro, Psych...the list is endless. I genuinely think that nursing can fit into any area. You just need to find your niche.
