So I just got home from what I would say, my worst interview ever! I want to cry, but I am not going to let myself, because I have an interview for my dream job coming up in 2 weeks:yeah:

This is about my 10th interview, and thankfully I do have a job working in a SNF, but I want out of the SNF and if I don't get the dream job, I want to be out of the SNF.

This was for a LTACH, the interview with the recruiter went great and today I had an interview with the DON, and well he pretty much looked at my resume and decided that he didn't want to hire me and made sure that I knew it.

He asked some basic interview questions and then started with a rapid fire on clinical questions, some I knew and a lot I had to say I am sorry, but I don't know:confused:, and he smilled and "Yeah I thought you didn't", "You dont have acute care experience, and I need acute care experience" The questions and they way he asked him, it was like he was trying to prove to me how little I knew

He said the best he could do was hang on to my app and I could call back in 2 weeks and he may want me to work on call, but he has to fill his full time positons first.

I walked away feeling very bewildered about the interview

What a jerk! I wouldn't want to work for him anyway. He's done you a favor by not hiring you, so you won't have to put up with him! Hopefully, the next interview will be the job for you! Good luck!

I would have told him upfront it was not a good fit for me, excused myself and left. I do not need that kind of bull in my life. People think they can act like that because the economy is so bad. Sorry but I will work at Walmart before I am treated like crap.

There is probably a reason he is looking for a new nurse. Sounds like you were the lucky one.

I was thinking the same thing, I didn't lie about my experience, they knew that I had only worked in a SNF, and I am a new nurse.

I was done with the interview by 1430 and I already had a rejection email in my inbox by 1445, that okay because I have 2 weeks to prepare for my dream job interview a 6 month internship in a level 2 trauma center

It was an obnoxious way to treat anyone who took the time to interview. But, unfortunately in these times where there's a lot more workers than jobs, it seems that even basic courtesy has gone out the window. I concur with the other responders in that you would have been miserable working with someone who obviously leaves a lot to be desired in the respect and consideration department.

Remember too you're at an inherent disadvantage when you interview in that you don't have the inside scoop. It could be that he had the position filled with someone he wanted to hire and is just going through the motions of interviewing to fufill some company policy requirement to interview a certain number of people. You don't know and you can't take it personally.

I don't think Walmart is famous for how they treat their workers either. But your point noted. If it was that bad I don't think I would have a problem saying something like " Excuse me but may we please conclude this now as there is no value in continuing onward like this while using my time and the company's money when I clearly am not in consideration for the position"

However. the manger might only have had a really bad day himself. Someone else might have arranged the interview for him and he actually glanced at your resume for the first time when you came in and wondered why you're there.

Then with the clinical questions made sure that you actually are not qualified for the job.

Maybe he wondered why you applied if he thought the position description clearly stated that you need experience.

And maybe as said before he just had to do interviews due to policies.

Take it as an experience and don't bother about it.

Have you ever worked at WM? I just say this because my aunt worked there for a number of years. When her father died they offered to write her a blank check, drive her to where she needed to go, and gave her as much time off as needed. Also when I worked there my dad had a heart attack and was taken to the hosptial. I received the phone call at work where I was cashiering. WM was SO understanding and let me go right then, no questions asked. They also let me take as much time PAID as I needed. WM treated me wonderfully! I left WM making more money than I made as an aide. That's right! WM paid me more to cashier than the nursing home was willing to give me to take care of the elderly! Okay stepping off my soap box. Sorry I feel pretty strongly that at times retail stores treat their employees better than nursing homes or hospitals do...which IMHO is super duper sad!

I've never had an interview like you describe OP. As a nurse I got the job moving up from NAC to LPN without said interview. They had a certain number of hours and I called and expressed my interest. My 2nd job, my SIL called me and told me about a job that was available (as things weren't going well with my other place of employment, hours were being cut, etc). I filled out an application, had an interview on the spot and was offered a job. They were concerned because I was a new nurse if I could handle being the nurse in charge (only nurse on the floor from 830 pm until 6 am. I told them I felt I could handle it. They also told me that if I was up for the challenge that they would be available (by phone) if I had questions. They just wanted to know that I felt confident and that I could do it. Which as a nurse at the previous place hours were cut SO severly that I was often left being the only nurse on the floor for 4 hours per day, during which EVERYONE was awake.

Wow, that guy was an a**. But that's what everyone has been telling you already. ;) I would have left bewildered too! I just hate it when people use positions of authority to get away with acting like a douche. I mean, seriously, if I encountered this person on the street and he acted like that, I would have easily put him in his place of douchebaggery, but when you're expected to be professional and don't want to burn any bridges, he has the upper hand. Sheesh.
