Hi,

what are some options in nursing? i feel the floors are so busy that i really don't do nursing the way i want i just try to get things done! what is nurse consulting other than legal? is there a position where i can do mainly education of patients? what are other options? Can I do this as a PNP?

new nurse thinking of future! Thank you so much! T.

There are SOOO many options for RNs that it's limitless. I CHOSE to leave the hospital setting aftter 20 years to own my own Internet / Home Based Business. I found LNC as well as Medical Billing consulting and Billing Fraud Reviews to be a dying field. I think the **KEY** to happiness and success is to do as I did and WRITE down your dreams and goals. If you're current career isn't the VEHICLE you need to help you reach those goals, the LOOK outside of the "box" to find another VEHICLE!! Feel free to email me any questions, and GOOD LUCK!!!!! Hi T,

May I suggest two books. One is How I Became A Nurse Entrepreneur. 50 Stories of nurses in business. Published by the National Nurses in Business Association.

Another is a text--Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nursing by Ann Wolbert Burgess.

It covers consulting in psych but I'm sure it could give you some ideas that you could

use as a PNP. Advanced Practice Nurses have been Consult Laisons, Case Managers, Inservice Instructors, and in private practice. My plan is to use my computer skills as a computer technician, along with my 20 years of psych nursing experience. I am now in school studying for my Masters in Psych nursing. I am hoping to do individual and group psychotherapy. I hope to focus on those among us who are technophobic and assist them in learning computer skills in a non anxiety

producing environment. So, T, dream a dream and make it come true!!! Good luck.

iKelly, what a super-dooper idea! Plus, I've never heard of the national Nurses in Business Assoc., but so many are dreaming these kind of dreams; you and those like you give hope. Thanks and I hope you succeed! By the way, re nurse consulting, I was a consult for Aetna(now Aetna/US Healthcare, I think). This was in '89, but I just couldn't bear denying hospital days in certain cases. I had patients calling me from their hospital beds! According to Aetna, if you didn't meet the d--- criteria, it's out the door! Many is the day, I would certify another hospital day, and on a wing and a prayer, hoped it didn't come up in my next audit! Sometimes it did, but I'm still eligible for rehire, LOL!

You and I think alike. I'm trying to find out the same thing myself. I read that book about the 50 nurses in business. It was pretty good, despite all the mistakes in it. (Some paragraphs are repeated twice, etc.) I will be a b/s nurse to gain experience then I'm moving on. I'm glad you posted the question. I hope you get a lot of replies because I'll be waiting for them also!
