I will be starting school at Cincinnati State for the RN Program. I am still a little confused about the difference between a PRN, a RN, a ADN, and a LPN? I just need a little bit more of understanding of these?

Thank you both mittels & purplemania! I appreciate your time and the clarification! It helped me to realize that I need to put my all into my RN schooling and forget the rest! RN is where I want to be and I am going to focus on obtaining that goal! Thanks again!

thank you for clarification on that.

Wow these states and there rules or should I say laws :) I live in CA. LVN x 7ys. I have started IVs, hanged hydration, dc heplocks I am IV ceritified by the way. I have been a ADON, Charge Nurse and Team Leader, Nurse Coordinator. I am only 28 years old. Oh yeah I have been a Crisis Nurse Team Lead no RN in the building to manage it was just oh little me with LPTs under me. I have worked 3-11 shift as a charge nurse no RN in the building 77 bed facility with 3 CNAs.If something happen you call the DON but other than that its just you:) I took telephone/ verbal orders/ took off orders. I did recaps, meaning I checked the orders every month before the new MARS were placed in the med book. I have assisted doctors with invasive procedures , removed staples, insert indwelling catheters to make a long story short I have done alot but always within my scope of practice. It depends where you live, what is the going rate for LVNs in the area, cost of living increases. I make as much as a new grad RN. no exaggeration. I am into ancillary services now. I do pre cert for Hemophilia, IVIG and Remodulin patients. I am on the computer all day 6-2pm M-F. I love it. Do I feel I should be making more well ..yes but I am happy and I am pursuing my ASN degree. You have to do what you have to do. I was a CNA, HHA, then a LVN. It is nothing wrong with taking baby steps. Whatever rocks your boat:)

I went through school and earned my ADN, but my title is RN.

I am going to be starting nursing school soon. I am just trying to get my prerequistes out of the way first. I just need to get a little more clarification on and Associate RN and a BS RN. I have looked into both of them but there are different prereq. for each. I was told that they pretty much are the same, but the only difference is that a BS RN can supervise and the other can not. Is this true? The one school that is offering the Associate RN also will offer a distance learning for the BS (after completion).

The LVN's in our area average $15-$18/hr. RN's average $25-$30/hr. I disagree with the LVN/LPN (Ca and TX use LVN) who stated the pay and work was not much different for the one year of school. In 5 years an LVN will top out in pay around here. The RN is limited only by ambition. LVN's generally do not have managerial positions. So it depends on where you want to be 5 years from now.

Another thing, our hospital is no longer hiring LVN's. Period.
