What do you recommend?

I am starting nursing school and the local bookstore is going out of business. Do you have any suggestions for books that might help while in the program? Recommendations? I do not have my book list yet from the school, but I know there are some extra books out there that possibly was essential for your education. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks.

Two of my favorites were in the "Incredibly Easy" series and the "NCLEX-RN for Dummies". Can't miss the book on "Prioritizing and Delegation" as a lot of NCLEX questions are on this matter. Also, the "Memory Notebook of Nursing" was good. I also recommend some of the books that deal with your first year as a nurse - a lot of tips on getting along as the new grad. For textbooks, wait until you get your list from school. Happy reading!

The "incredibly easy" books are good! They have a ton for nursing related subjects. They explain things really well! Good luck!

Yep incredibly easy books are GREAT, also I have a tape about lung sounds and I love it.

I would go for a good nursing drug handbook. Another suggestion would be a book on careplans.

If you are going to school for BSN, you should buy a book on APA guidelines as papers for almost every BSN program requires this style.

I also like Chicken soup for Nurses.

I have found Saunders' Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX to be incredibly helpful. It seemed weird to me to be buying a NCLEX book when I was just starting, but it has a lot of good information on it and practice quizzes that you can use to study for your classes! As soon as I started using it in med-surg, my grades went up dramatically.

I also like the incredibly visual series, especially the cardiac one, which you can find on amazon pretty cheaply. The Davis Drug Guide has been useful, as well.
