Hi! So I will get right down to it. I am a postpartum/light med surg RN at a large facility. It is very busy and I love it! I have great co workers and management, However I feel bored. I feel I am spinning my wheels and am desperate to learn more. My facility is a level one trauma center and I would like to go to the ED. Our ED is insane and super super busy. Any advice? Should I consider something else first? I have alot of energy and know I can handle it, but its a HUGE change. I am also about to be an EMT and am a first responder so I am familiar with the kind of patients they have as well.

Thanks so much for any advice!

You could always contact the director of the department and ask to shadow for a day to see if it's something that you think you would enjoy. What else would you consider first, if not the ED? Did you start out as a new grad in postpartum, and if so, is that where you wanted to be, or is that who had a job available? I don't say that with any judgement, because I know how tough it is for new grads to find jobs right now, especially in certain areas. What attracts you to the ED setting?

I say go for it!

EMT experience is super helpful.

I also think shadowing is a good idea.
