So tax season is here. I am an LVN in CA. I have no idea all the items you can write off. Does anyone know what we can write off?

Supplies---stethoscopes, scissors, etc; uniforms, shoes and such; education paid for out of your own pocket; resource supplies, reference books--drug books (or apps if you go that route).

But you gotta have all those pesky receipts. I have a heck of a time keeping up!

I would check with your state tax laws. In my state, an accountant told me that the amount spent on work related write-offs had to be a certain percentage of your income. I don't know if that's true with every state, but I'd recommend checking it out.

Get in the habit of scanning and filing your receipts the instant you have them. Then you can print them all out for your tax person, who will kiss your feet for not bringing in a shoebox of paper slips. S/he can tell you whether they are enough to itemize or not, and can also advise you as to what's deductible and what's not on state and Federal returns.
