Shadowing post interview - Is this a good sign?

Hi all,

I just had an interview for a nursing job I REALLY WANT!! I had my interview last week and that night I was called to see if I was interested in doing a Shadow for a day. I of course said yes!

My question is is this probably a good sign they may be interested in hriing me or is it more likely that they may be trying to narrow down canidates further??

This is my absolute dream job and I would PAY THEM to hire me for the experience....

Also, are there any questions or things I should or shouldn't do on this experience?

i think it's a great sign. it means they liked you, and want to see if you would be a good fit on the unit (or office, or whatever).

just show up ready to learn, act engaged and interested (which it sounds like you are, so it shouldn't be an "act" at all). it seems like a good chance to show off your enthusiasm for the position, and let them know why you would be the best candidate for the job!

Sounds pretty good. They wouldn't ask if they weren't a least considering you for the position! I do encourage you to determine how long you will be there ahead of time. I had a similar situation for an awesome position, took a day off from my current job, and spent 6hours "shadowing" just to not get the job. Not at all saying that will happen to you but it would be a bummer to spend an entire day and not get anything out of it you know? Anyway, the best of wishes to you! You already have an edge up because you are so enthusiastic about the position!!

VERY good sign.

Usually job shadowing has two purposes:

1. To see if YOU like the work atmosphere, hospital, etc; and

2. To see if the STAFF like YOU, and if you are a good fit personality-wise.

Good luck to you!-- remember, ask a lot of questions and show interest, enthusiasm, etc.

Ooo I'm hoping that being asked to shadow is a good sign cause I got asked the same thing after my interview last week! I had my shadow day on Wednesday, hope to hear back soon. Keep us posted!

Thanks everyone for the replies and for the encouragement. I am going to do my best to not be nervous.... thats hard though when your dream job is on the line.

Good luck Lori, let me know if you get the job, sometimes the waiting to hear is the hardest part!

So I did my shadowing today, it went well. I am just so shy though I think that could kill my chances.

Anyway I sent a thank you note for the interview time, should I send another thank you to the crew for the shadow experience?

I sent a thank you note to the three people that interviewed me and then a separate one to the nurse that let me tag along on my shadow day. I feel like it couldn't hurt- they did ask the nurse I shadowed with her opinion about me and sending a nice thank you could only help that opinion!

I actually got the job I shadowed for! So excited and thankful to be starting in less than 2 weeks!

Well I got some kinda bad news today... Two in-hospital nurses applied for the job I shaddowed for and they are interviewing next week. So I am guessing my chances are probably slim to none now since they would probably prefer to hire someone who already works at the hospital :(
