So and So needs me now
May not be a bad idea to build some rapport with her, as well as being straight forward about what you need and expect from her. She may be as busy as she claims to be, I know you are! I don't enjoy the atmosphere of tension between Nurses and Aides that sometimes exists. I'm not sure increasing to more aggressive wording will create a better daily working situation between either party.. Maybe in other environments that could work-just haven't witnessed it myself.

Starting as a new nursing assistant tomorrow morning
Congratulations! Yes I agree you are going to get tons of great hands on training and experience. I decided to further my education after a few years of NA work, I believe they added the "C" requirement around that time What was best for me, and the thing most valuable, I seriously picked up a feel for bedside care, and also knowledge of procedures, tests and so much more. I think it will help you on your Nursing path. Good luck to you!

Obnoxious classmates that turn into great nurses
I was pulled aside after soon after I finished my nursing program by a General surgeon at the hospital where I worked. He said to me " you are very good at what you do, but you do not have enough patience and you need to do better with that." That was all it took for some reason that embarrassed me. It's true I was a very impatient person in my early twenties, I wasnt even aware it showed. Needless to say since that time I am always aware of myself in that way. Just the right thing, said by the right person at the right time- can change everything I gave up trying to figure out who would be a good nurse or not, I have been shocked in both directions!

I have a question for all NURSES!!!
Oh, sorry , I just cant imagine a nurse actually doing that! Seriously though, what is it that you need help with regarding the question?

I have a question for all NURSES!!!
As my teen age daughter would say, I think it was a fail when they allowed her into a nursing program But yeah, that does sound like a homework question...

Sick of being a nurse in the Prison
I have not worked with inmates before, but I have absolutely worked with hospital patients and their families. My take is, people are exaggerated versions of whatever their personality is, whether it is the patient or family, when under stress. The more perceived stress, the more obnoxious or rude an already slightly rude, obnoxious type becomes. Then, there are those who are easy going and they really do not change much. These are the patients that help to make the work worthwhile! Don't know about a federal prison, I imagine they are already on edge most of the time to begin with. I guess it is subjective which is a better atmosphere for you.

So You Want To Go To Nursing School? (circa 1960's 1970's)
These links are good stuff, I was a student in the late 1980's and on into the early 90's My school had instructors that were straight outta your book. One had been a former military nurse on top of that! I also had to Don a very silly cap I do feel the education they provided me was nicely done, albeit some of the disciplines felt arbitrary to me at the time- it's still neat to hold onto some foundations.

Please help me and tell me why bedside nurisng MUST be the 1st step
I dunno, I have been dropped into some totally unexpected and interestingly frightening scenarios. I think it will rest on your ability to stay cool and quickly pick things up as you go along. This fact> " they are willing to train" would already be the answer for me. Youcandoit! Good Luck to you :)

BLS cert
You can take the test online through the AHA site, then, after you complete and pass the final exam , you can print the certificate to show you have done the written work. The AHA charges a small fee for first part, however they provide you with a nice online tutorial and pre test. Next step is using the locator that JJG provided you with. You will be charged to go in and take the final portion with the instructor, you will demonstrate your hands- on skill. I paid 55.00 dollars for this part. I am now working toward obtaining my acls certificate, going about it the same way as I did the BLS. Best of luck to you

Anyone a ACLS instructor?
I have to agree, you do sound like a Grumpy Old Man, and you must have made your wife a nervous wreck! I am all about the new standards, just as the rigid nurses that trained me years ago have come to adapt to new ideas and technology so must I. Working a code alone or working as a team, the concept should not make the potential rescuer so intimidated that they cannot cope. A person should feel they can be in control, and will not have to go it alone, in a professional environment. I always resented the stringent way I was taught because as I worked in the field I found it to be entirely different and a gross exaggeration of the work involved. Yes it is hard and serious business, but why add to already unavoidable stress? I do not know any nurses, Paramedics, emt's etc. with any level of awareness who take their work lightly. And in my experience, we sift out those who are "trained" and still cannot do the work. Thats not a lack of teaching, I have been in plenty of classes twenty years ago and today, that simply can only get the message to the students that want to hear it. With your background and experience you have so much to offer, you should consider going back and adding something to the class instead of going in and gloating and trying to humiliate others, as you said you'd enjoy doing. :redbeathe
