Nurses General Nursing

I'm a high school senior w/a 3.8 gpa. I've wanted to be a nurse for years. But in looking at colleges, I almost feel defeated before starting. Right now I'm looking at public and private schools in Oregon, Utah, Washington and Idaho. I've searched many web sites and it seems they are all the same. They want me until I read about how competive the nursing schools are. What is better a remote school like Eastern Oregon or private one in Portland or SLC? Any ideas on which schools in these areas have the best pass rate for the license exam?

Hi,

Dont get discouraged. It is true most nursing programs are very competitive. I know OR and UW have a 100 percent pass rate. I'm an alumni of UW, not the nursing school, but I know several friends that went to the UW nursing school. I'm also pretty privy to the nursing school admissions at UW. So, if you want some more info specifically on the UW program you can PM me. I just applied for the UW's master's program in nursing and so I can probably tell some info about the misson of the school too. UW is ranked #1 in the nation and I know OR is ranked in the top 10.

Yes I would like information about UW. I know WSU, EWU and a few others are in a consortium and about 1/3 of each class is accepted to the nursing school in Spokane. I haven't checked out Western Washington.

I wouldn't worry too much about NCLEX pass rates. It is not the school that makes you pass the state boards; rather, it is your internal motivation and study habits.
