We aways seem to be out of SCD's and the docs order them. It seems like they are ordered for every pt admited even those admitted for 23 obs with a "hangnail". I don't know what happens to them (the SCD machines), the hospital must eat them. To try to make the best out of this situation, I asked the powers that be if we could have a criteria for the use of the SCD's, priority to nonambulatory high risk pts. TED hose for ambulatory pts. The response I got back was, "We need to have research that shows that TED hose are effective for DVT prophalatics in ambulatory pts. I am having a really hard time finding any information. Can anyone help?
