I'm sorry to be doing this, but I need to make drug cards for Ritodrine and Bicitra (hope spelling is good). I have Nursing2004 Drug Guide and I am not finding them in there. I found some info on Ritodrine in my Maternity Health text but nothing on Bicitra. I need generic and brand names, dose, mode of action, side effects and nursing implications.

Thanks a bunch.

Toni

google works wonders and provides links to all of the information you are looking for. MedLine plus is an excellent internet resource.

Thanks, I've tried Google, but not getting Nursing Implications....I will try MEdline though.

Thanks for the idea!

Try a pharmacy website like pharmacy.com

will do. Thanks. Will let you know what I find.

Bicitra is Sodium Citrate (with another additive). It's purpose is an antacid property, commonly used preoperatively.

Ritodrine is (I don't know the generic, as we don't use it anymore) an tocolytic, used in much the same way that Brethine (terbutaline) is used in Labor and delivery. Terb is also used as a cardiac med as a positive chronotrope.

Here's a tip for the future. Call the pharmacy at a hospital. The pharmacy # may not be listed but you can get it or get connected once you call the hospital.

They are great and fast with answering these types of questions and always willing to help out a student.

Pharmacology can be so frustrating. And there are time every nurse picks up the phone as asks the pharmacy questions.

You don't have to be present and working in the hospital to do this. I find I get better results by calling a hosp. pharm. than a drug store.

There are several reasons for this I won't go into.
