Return to hospital??? Anyone actually like working there?

I've been a school nurse most of my nursing career. The past 5 yrs I've been subsitituting as a school nurse (after taking time off to raise kids) trying to decide if I want to return there full-time. I have mixed feelings about it because although I LOVE the schedule and not having to worry about childcare I find it quite monotonous at times and feel like I'm really not growing. I have an interview for a part-time 12 hr days nurse on med-surg. The thought terrifies me because I worked med-surg when I first got out of nursing school I really hated it. This is a different hospital with a better nurse-patient ratio so I'm hoping it won't be as bad. I really want to re-fresh my skills and find an area I can really thrive in. I want to get all my basic skills down before trying to branch out into something new. Also, it seems like so many nursing jobs want you to have a years' worth of clinical experience and school nursing doesn't count. Everyone thinks I'm crazy to leave school nursing. I do love working with kids and I enjoy working in a laid back atmosphere where I'm on my own but I don't look forward to going to work at all which is why I haven't been able to make myself go back permanently. I also hate working five days in a row but the fact I get off the summer makes up for it. However, I don't think I'll mind working the summer if it's only part-time anyway. Has anyone else went back to the hospital and been happy? It seems like everyone is trying to get OUT of the hospital. Also, I'm in my 40's so I'm also worried about how physically demanding it will be lifting people and being on my feet for 12 hrs. Should I just be happy with what I have or try returning to the hospital? Anyone successfully return to the hospital or enjoy working in a hospital?

I've worked in psych hospitals for 3 years and I'm enjoying it. I'll probably pursue an advanced degree, but don't think I'll ever fully leave the bedside. At least not at this point in my life: ask me again in 5 years :)

i love the hospital, and wouldn't want to leave.

Purple Scrubs- I sent you a friend request so I could PM you to see how you are doing!

I'm trying to get IN the hospital haha. I really want to get my NP but combined with my terrible GPA and LTC experience it is becoming more and more of a fleeting dream.

I'm stuck to become a perma bedside nurse...
