Respiratory Therapist?

Is there anyone here who was ever a respiratory therapist? How is the pay and is it a good field to go into?Are the classes just as hard as nursing classes? The exam you take after the program, how hard is it?

Totally new to me since I came to the US - we don't have RTs in Australia, the RNs manage ventilator settings, ABGs, nebs, suctioning, setting up vent etc.

Is the Respiratory Therapy program at Gwinnett Tech very competitive to get in? Do you think that I could squeeze through with a 3.3 gpa in the prereqs? I know that the minimum is a 2.5. Thanks a lot
