Questions about job offer

I have 2 job offers from the hospital that I interviewed with over Christmas Break!! They are both in pediatric stepdown units so it's not exactly what I want but I am still waiting to hear back from the NICU nurse manager that I interviewed with. Here's a question for those of you that may know: When the recruiter called me today to tell me about the job offers she said that the NICU NM wanted to postpone making a decision about whether to extend a job offer to me until after she has interviewed a few more people. She told me that the NM has only told her for sure about the people that she will not be extending a job offer to. The recruiter told me that if NICU is really where I want to be than she will speak with the NM directly and let her know that there are two departments wanting me but NICU is where I really want to be. The recruiter said she should be able to get a definite answer for me. I am a little worried that the NM may be likely to say no if she is pressured to make a decision. What do you guys think?

It sounds as if the recruiter is trying to be the best possible advocate for you, as well as the unit managers. That is what GOOD recruiters do, and believe me, it is a rare quality.

She is trying to nudge the NICU manager into a decision without holding up the process for other managers who may be a bit farther along in the interview/hiring process. I don't think this would prompt the NICU manager to decline an offer to you, unless she is strongly leaning that way anyway.

As I see it, your only other alternative is to accept one of the offers, and then recind your acceptance if the NICU comes thru. As a former nurse manager, I would frown on that tactic. I personally think it is better to be up-front about your preferences and try to work them out with all involved.

Thank you very much. Let me ask one more question...The recruiter told me that she would get back to me either way on Thursday and as of now I have not heard back from her...Should I call her or email her on Monday to touch base with her or just wait until she gets back to me?

I'd give her a quick call on Monday. To be honest with you, the recruiter at my hospital is an airhead and I am sure that the only reason I am in my current position is because of my polite persistance.

So I don't know anything yet about the NICU. The recruiter called me yesterday to let me know that the NICU manager has been at a conference and that is why she hasn't been able to get me an answer yet. The recruiter told me that she has a conference call scheduled on Monday afternoon with the manager so I will know for sure by Tuesday at the latest. Wish me luck everyone!!!!

i would go ahead with what the recruiter is recommending. the other depts might not wait for you. you want to get a job.

I'd call her she could have just get busy. My motto is all they can say is no. You won't find out until you call her.
