Question about shock therapy??

Can anyone explain to me how this is done or refer me to a web page that I can read about it? I would really appreciate this information for I fear it will be the treatment for my resident in my other post. Is this usually effective? Since I do not encounter this in my area of nursing I would like to read up on it and understand it. Thanks! Also, what is the reasoning behind it?
