Psychotropics

Any psych nurses (or any nurses for that matter) have any opinions on giving certain meds to children (Ritalin, Rispirdol, Lithium, Adderal)

I have seen their use in pts as young as 5 years old...

in some cases i think they might be very helpful, but i think they are often overused. i cant imagine giving a five year old lithium, but then again i cant imagine giving my dog prozac either, but it is used like that.

i have one question about giving kids meds like this.

is it actually to help them or is the purpose to make them conform to what we consider the "norm"?
