I have carried insurance since I graduated from Nursing school, we had a nurse (exnurse) speak with us about how necessary it is and after she informed us of what happened to her I have carried it too the highest amount I can without being too available for lawsuits...
Its a tax deduction anyway so your not loosing any money really and its peace of mind.

I've been covered at the hospitals where I worked, but ALWAYS carry my own policy too. I worked too hard to get my nursing license and don't want to leave it in the hands of my employer to defend... we all know they will support the hospital and the physicians before they support the nurses. Shamful but true... That's my 2 cents...

Don't find out the hard way. Get it.
To teeituptom - our hospital has a legal plan also, however, if you read the criteria, it will not cover you if the hospital thinks you made an error in judgement and the hospital will find a way to blame you. Also, it won't help you if the hospital fires you.
:imbar I've seen it, and it isn't pretty to watch one of your fellow nurses go down in flames.

To rnoflabor2000, A small correction. My legal plannis outside of the hospital and is there to represent me. I pay a monthly fee to guarantee legal representation, you accumulate hours of representation. They are there strictly for me to protect my interests inside and outside of the hospital. Kind of like a legal HMO coverage. And they have lawyers of all specialties and guarantee coverage. Not shabby atall.
